In June, 2011 the Pulitzer Center partnered with Helium and Population Services International (PSI) to produce the "World Population Approaches 7 Billion" writing contest. The contest began Wednesday, June 8 and has now closed. Congratulations to our grand prize winner, Donna Hicks.

The top article, selected by a panel of judges from the Pulitzer Center and PSI, was chosen from the top four first-ranked articles for each writing prompt on the Helium site. The winning article will be published in Impact, PSI’s print magazine, as well as here on the Pulitzer Center site.

In an earlier posting the contest winner was misidentified. The Pulitzer Center regrets the error.
