Will Norman

Will Norman is the Director of Research with overall responsibility for the strategic direction and implementation of research projects.

Will specialises in ethnographic research methodologies and has recently completed work looking at the future of social enterprise and the public sector and ethnographic work on teenage pregnancy in South London. Will is currently leading a project looking at the lives and needs of people who regularly work night shifts.

In addition to his research role, Will oversees two of the Young Foundation's practical initiatives, the UpRising youth leadership programme and Maslaha - a web-based information service for British Muslims. The Young Foundation is looking to spin these projects off as separate organisations and Will is responsible for the business development as well as managing day-to-day operations.

Before joining the Young Foundation Will was the Joint Managing Director at ESRO (Ethnographic Social Research), a consultancy firm he co-founded in 2004. ESRO specialises in high quality social research for the public, private and voluntary sectors. At ESRO Will worked on a range of projects for clients ranging from Microsoft US, Unilever, Vodafone and Nokia to local authorities, the HMRC, Royal College of Nursing, Home Office, CAFOD and VSO.

Will has a PhD in anthropology from the London School of Economics (LSE) and has carried out fieldwork in Mozambique and South Africa. He has provided guidance on community engagement for both governments and the bi-lateral donors involved in developing the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park.

When not working, Will enjoys scuba diving with the Hackney Sub Aqua Club and being a Dad in North East London.
