The Woodstock Theological Center is an independent, Jesuit-sponsored research institute located at Georgetown University that carries out theological and ethical reflection on the most pressing human issues of the day. Drawing on the Roman Catholic tradition, the Woodstock Center is ecumenically open, multi-disciplinary, and collaborative with, among others, the business community, government, religious groups, universities, other research centers, and the media.

Our Research Fellows

Father Tom Reese, S.J., directs Woodstock's Religion & Public Policy program, and is one of the nation's most quoted experts on issues relating to the Catholic Church and the relationship of Catholicism to civil society. He holds a Ph.D. in political science, and has authored several popular books, including Archbishop and Inside the Vatican.

Each issue of the Woodstock Report contains stories about recent Forums, reflections by the Research Fellows and guest contributors on topics of current interest, and a letter from Gap Lo Biondo, S.J., Woodstock's Director. The John & Pat Figge Woodstock Student Fellowship Program begins its second year

Georgetown University undergraduates Chloe Benson, Alexander Clark, Corey Linehan, Soham Patel, and Isabel Sheinman form the 2010-11 class of John & Pat Figge Woodstock Student Fellows.

Through a research project, group activities, and interactions with Senior Research Fellows, Woodstock's Student Fellows are aided to integrate theological reflection into their daily and academic lives.

Our Programs

Woodstock's International Visiting Fellows Program brings scholars from around the world to spend time at the Center carrying out a research project of their own design. Recent Fellows have come from Australia, Chile, India, Malaysia, and Zimbabwe.

Where is Knowing Going? The Horizons of the Knowing Subject, by Woodstock Fellow John C. Haughey, S.J., has been honored with first place in the Catholic Press Association's 2010 Book Awards' Education category. The award citation explains that "By exploring the question, 'When is a Catholic university truly Catholic?' this book ranks high on the 'must read' list of serious educators."

And You Welcomed Me: Migration and Catholic Social Teaching, a major publication of Woodstock's Theology of Migration Project, is now available.
