Tonight's show was excellent. Charlie Brooker's critique on UK/US TV news is absolutely spot on. This may be masquerading as comedy but his sweary satire carries more incisive questions than a full week of BBC Breakfast. More of this please - and at peak times on a major channel. This is the kind of examination of news, and news stories, which we all need to hear. Funny and very worrying.

Watching Newswipe is like watching a breath of fresh air - it's a shame more of Charlie's observations are not taken on board by the BBC News team which increasingly blurs the line between 'News' and 'Entertainment news'. I'll stop before I start...

Jack Nunn, London

Charlie Brooker is brilliant, always amusing, imaginative and full of insight. In this series he has made some very good points about news coverage, which deserve a wider audience. For example the part about the Haiti disaster coverage should be shown on the BBC News channel or Newsnight as well.

I'm a great fan of Charlie Brooker's programmes. This week for some reason there was an outbreak of music playing under a lot of what Charlie and his guests had to say. I think my hearing is quite good for a 60+ year old but I found it hard to make out some of what was said. In any case, I doubt very much if Charlie needs music playing while he's talking. If the music has to be there, turn it down!

Excellent. At last satire returns. An antidote to a dumbed-down world, without the dreary and depressing cynicism of other attempts. This runs on informed scepticism, and a refusal to be overwhelmed by the sea of candyfloss and superficiality that surrounds us.

Barry Thomas, Llanberis, Gwynedd

Just superb. Keeps me sane.

Stephanie Benson, Heathfield

I really enjoy this programme. Good observation and comment on TV news, but why is there incessant background music throughout? I find it so annoying and distracting from Charlie's words that I consider switching off. Do the production team watch the finished item? If so, do they not also find this superfluous music infuriating? Please stop it!

Keith Green, Romsey , Hants

Well done Mr Brooker. About time someone takes these broadcasters to book.

Michael Holtham, London

Congratulations - excellent! Each programme has at least one boldly unorthodox commentary or satire. I loved the perfectly observed analysis of the currently fashionable conventions and style of TV reporting and talking head documentaries, a week or two ago. Keep up the good work!

J Carter, London

Thank God for the BBC and Brooker (but not in that order) for this brilliantly constructed deconstruction of the British and American news business. Makes me laugh and think at the same time. The drunk bloke [Doug Stanhope] is spot on and a brave editorial choice. Well done.

Michael Cawley, Carshalton

At last a programme that reveals the News to be the fear-mongering waste of time and space it truly is. "War, Famine, Death Aids, Repression, Depression, War, Famine, Death..." if only Bill Hicks was still alive, although Doug Stanhope does a good job.

Simon, UK

By far the best show on TV. In a television world of lies, spin, celebrity superstars and more lies, it is so refreshing to see someone bold enough to see through the murky world of the dark arts and speak the truth about the disturbing levels the media and news will sink to, in order to capture markets and/or push agendas. Congratulations Charlie and please do not stop doing what you're doing. Also, well done BBC for allowing this to air.

Paul, Liverpool

Essential. A vital breath of fresh air. More required than just a short series. Why has he not got a regular BBC slot?

Bambo, Edinburgh

A huge relief to see some sanity. I feel a bit more included; a bit less alone in the world. In what other context could the genius of Doug Stanhope fit so seamlessly?

Michael Brand, Ashington

I like the programme; the content is well put together. Unfortunately the programme is spoilt by intrusive noise pollution (the word 'music' doesn't really cover the issue).
