2106 FOOTBALL: Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor's international return is "now definite" after Togo officials agreed to his demands at a series of meetings in Ghana, which include the federation paying promptly for air tickets for players to travel to games. Adebayor, who retired from international football in 2010, is expected to make his comeback in Tuesday's home World Cup qualifier against Guinea-Bissau.

1937 FOOTBALL: The full-time whistle has gone and Scotland Under-21s have completed a fantastic 2-1 victory over Holland in Nijmegen in Euro 2013 qualifying.

1935 BASKETBALL: The NBA season has been placed in doubt after players rejected the league's latest offer on revenue-sharing, reports AP. The current proposal called for a 50-50 division of basketball-related income and proposed a 72-game season beginning 15 December.

1923 FOOTBALL: Jim Gannon has returned to Stockport County as the club's new director of football. He will be responsible for selection and all transfers and will be assisted by Willie McStay.

1918 TENNIS: Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova has been named as the WTA's player of the year to cap her breakthrough season. The 21-year-old won six singles titles, including the season-ending tour championships, and rose from No. 34 to No. 2 in the rankings.

1848 FOOTBALL: Scotland Under-21s are now leading 2-1 in their UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifier with Holland. David Wotherspoon has scored the goal.

1839 RUGBY UNION: Biarritz prop Eduard Coetzee has announced his retirement after being told by doctors that he has taken too many blows to the head, reports AFP. The 32-year-old, who has been knocked out three times already this season, said: "For me it is over as far as rugby is concerned. I consulted three different neurologists, including two who work with the National Rugby League (LNR), and those last two formally forbade me to play rugby at the highest level."

1833 FOOTBALL: Neil Taylor has given Swansea City a boost after declaring himself fit for Saturday's showdown with Manchester United. The left-back missed Wales' 4-1 win over Norway with a bruised ankle but will be fit for the Premier League clash at the Liberty Stadium.

1821 RUGBY UNION: Referee Alain Rolland says he has no regrets in sending off Wales captain Sam Warburton during last month's World Cup semi-final against France. "If I had to do it all over again I would do the same thing," he told the Western Mail. "I don't think it needs to be vindicated full stop. The important part for referees, no matter what sport it is, is to take the emotion out of it."

MCC has been very consistent in its support for Test cricket and the need for governing bodies to give the five-day game a bit of a boost. The announcement is a setback for Test cricket, at a time when we need to work to find the optimum balance between all formats of the game."

1727 FOOTBALL: More from Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane on his club v country situation with LA Galaxy. 1558 RUGBY UNION: Wales defence coach Shaun Edwards has told Sky Sports News that did not have any contact with the Rugby Football Union about a role with England should Martin Johnson's tenure as coach come to a close. "I am always open to offers but I wouldn't expect to hear anything from the RFU," said Edwards. "And I'm not the kind of guy to pitch for another man's job. I live in the here and now. I never make plans too far ahead. My next focus is to beat Australia in December. We lost to them in the third/fourth place play-off at the World Cup - we owe them one, we want to beat them."


1550 CRICKET: International Cricket Council chief executive Haroon Lorgat has ruled out the possibility of holding a World Test championship until 2017. Speaking during Pakistan's one-day game against Sri Lanka, Lorgat confirmed: "At the last board meeting we decided that the first opportunity that we can play the World Test Championship is 2017. So I am disappointed that it is not going to take place sooner."

1542 FOOTBALL: Carlos Tevez's advisors have confirmed to the BBC that the striker remains in Argentina and has not returned to Manchester City for training on Monday.

1536 CRICKET: South African seamer Charl Willoughby has joined Essex on a two-year contract. The 36-year-old was released by Somerset after six years at Taunton.

1530 BASKETBALL: Two-time NBA scoring champion Kevin Durant is being courted by a club in Germany. Bavarian side BBC Bayreuth, who play in Germany's 18-team Bundesliga have been in "serious negotiations" with Durant's management for about three weeks and are optimistic about signing the Oklahoma City Thunder forward during the NBA lockout.

1450 RUGBY LEAGUE: England forward Adrian Morley will become the most capped player in the history of British rugby league in Saturday's Gillette Four Nations final against Australia. His 50th cap, which includes matches for both England and Great Britain, will put him just nine behind world record holder Darren Lockyer. The Australian will make his 59th and final appearance in the same match.

1446 FOOTBALL: Accrington defender Tom Bender says he is pleased to be back in action after six weeks out with a head injury. Bender, 18, was left unconscious after colliding with Stanley keeper Ian Dunbavin and Tranmere's Lucas Akins during a Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie.

1400 FORMULA ONE: Red Bull boss Christian Horner believes Sebastian Vettel proved himself a team player despite the disappointment of his first retirement of the season in Abu Dhabi. Instead of heading home, Vettel opted to stay behind and increase his knowledge in the pitwall. "He was interested to see the pitwall because he is never in a situation where he can hear the strategy unfolding and how a race operates," said Horner. "What he did is part of who he is. He's like a sponge for information, and it also demonstrates what a team player he is."

1352 FOOTBALL: Former Spanish international Guti has parted company with Besiktas after a 15-month spell with the club. The midfielder's contract was terminated after he failed to return to the club following a three-day break, Turkish media reports.

1342 FOOTBALL: Gregory Ioannidis, a professor in sports law and a top sports lawyer, has told BBC Sport's Simon Austin it will be impossible for Manchester City to sue Carlos Tevez for anything approaching the £40m that is being talked about. "If you sue, you sue for expectation loss, essentially a missed opportunity to make a profit. This is very difficult to calculate in this case. The loss is too remote and the figure of £40m is very speculative. The best thing City can do is to try and sort this out with the player."

1210 FOOTBALL: Nigeria defender Bobsam Elejiko collapsed and died while playing for Belgian side Merksem S.C. on Sunday. The 30-year-old was playing in the fifth-tier game against FC Kaart when he collapsed. Attempts to resuscitate the defender were unsuccessful and the cause of death was not immediately clear.

1205 CANOEING: Great Britain's Rachel Cawthorn faces an anxious wait to see if she will compete at next year's Olympics. Team GB have qualified for London 2012 in the K4 1,000m class, but the former European champion still has to compete for a place in the boat. The 23-year-old told BBC Surrey: "We've qualified but it could be any four girls. We don't know at all yet."
