Israeli naval commandos seized control of a French ship attempting to break its blockade of the Gaza Strip and towed it into Ashdod port, reporting no resistance during the takeover in international waters.

The ship Dignite-Al Karama was brought into Ashdod on Tuesday by Israeli naval ships, Al Jazeera's Tony Birtley reported from the Israeli harbour.

Israel deported two pro-Palestinian activists overnight, but another 118 were still in custody after flying into Israel as part of a pro-Palestinian protest, an Israeli official said on Sunday.

Sabine Hadad, immigration service spokesperson, told AFP:

A couple of Belgians were returned overnight, and 118 pro-Palestinian activists are still being held in our prisons. We hope it will be possible to return them to their home countries in the next 48 hours. It will depend on what spaces are available on departing flights.

The pro-Palestinian activists, who have been arrested and put in Israeli jail in Bir el-saba, have gone on a hunger strike. They have issued a letter listing their demands:

The Dignite al Karama, one of the ships which had intended to take part in a Gaza-bound international freedom flotilla, has left Crete with about 10 pro-Palestinian activists on board.

Greek authorities banned all flotilla vessels from leaving Greek ports earlier this week, but the French ship was granted permission by the Greek coast guard to sail to Rhodes on Saturday, Reuters reported.

But an activist on board said the boat's final destination was Gaza.......

Haaretz is reporting that more than 100 "political tourists" are being held as major airlines struggle to find space for them in peak holiday season. Deportations are likely to begin on Sunday.

Reuter reported that Pro-Palestine activists trying to fly into Tel -Aviv to stage a protest against Israeli blockade of Gaza say they were deliberately prevented from boarding their Swiss Air flight.
