These are exclusive pictures of large protests in the Syrian city of Homs, with an update from Al Jazeera's Nisreen el-Shamayleh.

In the latest wave of violence, the Syrian Revolution General Commission said 14 civilians were killed by security forces and armed Bashar al-Assad loyalists on Monday.

The western city of Homs, a hub of protests, was the worst hit, with 12 casualties. The other two people were killed n Idlib and Hama, the Commission said.

Latest estimates of death toll from Syria today:

At least nine people were killed across Syria on Saturday, activists said, as an Arab League deadline for Damascus to stop its lethal crackdown on dissent was set to expire.

"Six new civilians were killed by the security forces, bringing the overall death toll for Saturday to nine dead," said Rami Abdel Rahman, the head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, in a telephone call to AFP.

Three civilians were killed in the town of Kafr Takhareem, in the northwestern province of Idlib bordering Turkey, as military forces raided the
area, he said.

Two civilians were killed by gunfire during clashes between the regular army and mutinous soldiers in the town of Qusayr, in restive Homs province, while a third person was shot dead by a sniper in Homs city, he added.

The Observatory earlier reported the death of a civilian by gunfire when security forces stormed the village of Halfaya in the flashpoint central province of Hama.

The Britain-based group also quoted a defecting officer as saying in an earlier report that two army deserters were killed in clashes with regular troops in Qusayr.

Fresh protests took place across Syria calling on nations to expel Syrian ambassadors from their countries.

Below is a video posted by activists showing what they say is a protest in the central town of Kfar-Zeeta in Hama suburbs.

Protesters are heard chanting “Arabs, expel the ambassadors”.

Associated Press - Activists say Syrian troops have made sweeping arrests in Hama province as President Bashar al-Assad faces a growing challenge to his rule.

Thursday's raids took place in the restive Hama province, where Syrian army defectors attacked an army checkpoint the previous day. Details on the raids were not immediately clear.

Assad is facing severe isolation stemming from his crackdown on an 8-month-old uprising.

The latest blow came from the Arab League, which on Wednesday suspended Damascus and threatened economic sanctions if the regime continues to violate an Arab-brokered peace plan.

Russian and European Union officials are holding talks on Syria and other issues on Thursday in Moscow. Russia remains one of the few supporters of Assad's government.

Activist sources have told Al Jazeera that four people have been killed and more than twenty injured at a protest in Hama today.

Six days after the Arab League announced a plan to bring about negotiations and a ceasefire, violence against protesters reportedly continues across Syria.

Activists with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the Local Co-ordination Committees say that at least two people have died today in Homs, while four were injured in Hama. The two cities, respectively Syria's third- and fourth-largest, previously have been the scenes of bloody crackdowns.

The government launched an assault on Homs, perhaps the country's most rebellious city, around the same time the Arab League announced that President Bashar al-Assad's regime had agreed to its plan. At least 110 people have died there, and armed opposition forces are reportedly present as well.
