Faculty and Staff Assistance Program - FAQs

1. What is the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP)?
The FSAP is a Georgetown program designed to assist faculty and staff members (and their families) with a variety of professional and personal concerns. All part- and full-time faculty and staff members are eligible for FSAP services.

The FSAP's basic functions are to provide short-term and crisis counseling to employees, to coordinate educational programs regarding mental health and wellness, and to provide a confidential resource on campus for all faculty and staff members.

As an institutional resource, the FSAP helps to address behavioral functioning which impacts morale, performance, and the mission of the institution.

2. What kinds of issues does the FSAP handle?
Our counselors are all licensed psychotherapists who can address emotional concerns such as depression, anxiety, addictions, grief, etc.  We also address problems we all face in daily living such as: relationship problems, work issues, stressors of all sorts, raising children, etc.  We can also offer referrals for financial concerns.  Our counseling model deliberately allows for small to large concerns.

3. Who is eligible for services?

Georgetown faculty and staff and their immediate family members and significant others.  We do not see children under 12, but will discuss the issues with you and offer referrals to professionals in the area who specialize in treating children.

4. How much do FSAP services cost?
There are no fees for sessions with the FSAP or for participation in FSAP-sponsored programs. The employee is responsible for any costs that result from referrals to outside resources, but the employee's insurance coverage and ability to pay are carefully considered when referrals are made.

5. Will my private talk with a FSAP counselor be shared with the University?
No. Your session is confidential with few exceptions as mandated by law. Counselor notes from your meeting are locked and are not accessible by the University for your privacy.

6. Where is the FSAP located?
Here is a Google map link. We are in a yellow town-house at the corner of 36th and N streets. The four corners at 36th and N are occupied by the Mortara Center, the Walsh building, HolyTrinity Catholic Church and the office of Off-Campus Residence Life. Our office is across from the Trinity Church, and right above the office of Off-Campus Residence Life. We have a bell outside the office which lets people in.

If you are traveling to our office from a Georgetown University satellite or off-campus office, please consider the GUTS Shuttle service.
