Formula 1: Record-Breaking Pole for Vettel in Brazil
Sunday marks the final round of the 2011 Formula One World Championship, and after the recent dramas of 2010 and 2008 it's a much lower-key end to the season with the Drivers and Manufactures' titles already wrapped up in favour of Sebastian Vettel and his Red Bull team. The champion starts in pole position, his 15th of the season, breaking Nigel Mansell's record for the most in a season and lining up on the front row ahead of Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber at Interlagos on Sunday.

Lewis Hamilton obtained his third victory of the season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after champion Sebastian Vettel, who started from pole position, retired at the second corner with a puncture that left the German driver and his Red Bull team perplexed, unable to explain why his rear tyre suddenly deflated after the first corner.

Esperance Win First African Champions League Title After 17 years
Seventeen years after their firs victory, Tunisian club Esperance won the 2011 CAF Champions League title once again after defeating Wydad Casablanca 1-0 on aggregate with a goal from Ghanaian-born defender Harrison Afful after both teams had finished their first leg in the 47th edition of the competition in a scoreless draw.

London to Stage 2017 World Athletics Championships
The International Atheltics Federation, IAAF, has chosen London to host the 2017 World Athletics Championships, five years after organising the 2012 Olympic Games. London won the vote over Doha for the right to stage the global showpiece for the first time, thus fulfilling a promise of a legacy for track and field. London and Doha were the only candidates for the 2017 showpiece.

Australia's Gold Coast Wins Bid to Host 2018 Commonwealth Games
The Commonwealth Games Federation has chosen Australia's Gold Coast to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The vote went in its favour by a 43-27 margin over its only rival, the Sri Lankan city of Hambantota.

Sebastian Vettel won a titanic battle with Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button to take his 14th pole position of the season and equal Nigel Mansell's record of 14 pole wins in a season. The Red Bull driver showed he has no equal at the moment and edged out the McLarens with the final lap of qualifying for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

American boxer Joe 'Smokin' Joe' Frazier, who became the heavyweight champion of the world and earned boxing immortality with three epic battles against Muhammad Ali, has died at the age of 67 in Philadelphia a month after being diagnosed with liver cancer.

CAF Announces African Cup of Nations - 2013 CAN qualifiers
Although we are still two months away from the 2012 finals, the Confederation of African Football, CAF, has already released the draw for the qualifiers of the 2013 edition that was scheduled to be hosted by Libya. However after consultations, CAF moved the competition to South Africa.

Champion Vettel Gets 10th Win of Season and 20th for Career
Newly crowned Formula 1 world drivers champion Sebastian Vettel showed he hs not lost his appetite for success in the Korean Grand Prix on Sunday. After crowning himself champion for the second year running last Sunday, on the Korean International Circuit he took his tenth victory of the season and the 20th in his career. It also enabled his Red Bull team retaining the World Constructors' title.
