Ed Koch
New York City's former mayor says he has the answer to finding peace in the Middle East.
Last Modified: 22 Oct 2011 15:17

Ed Koch, the former New York City mayor, has become the public face and voice of increasingly vocal Jewish voters in the US.

The voters are worried about how developments in the Middle East might affect Israel, and not afraid to flex their political muscle to push their agenda.

Koch was so effective in his quest to push for a more supportive US policy towards Israel, that earlier this summer he persuaded fellow Jewish Democrats to actually vote against a New York City Congressional Democratic candidate and vote Republican instead, in order to send the White House a message.

In a candid interview, Koch says Barack Obama, the US president, was wrong to turn against Hosni Mubarak, Egypt's former president, and that he has not been "pro-Israel" enough.

He also says he has a recipe for dividing Jerusalem between Palestinians and Jews:

"I know how it can be done. It's easy. You want me to tell you?"
