Iran's key nuclear sites
Work to build a nuclear power plant at Bushehr began in 1974, but came to a halt in 1979 with the Islamic revolution. The project was revived in the 1990s with assistance from Russia, which is now preparing to begin loading nuclear fuel into the site's first operational reactor. Satellite images show how the plant has developed in the last decade.
Images from March 2010 show the first completed reactor building to the right. The whole site occupies 2.5 square kilometres (one square mile), about 17 km (11 miles) south of the city of Bushehr. Recent developments include a narrow channel to carry cooling water for the reactor from the Gulf, shown on the image above.
