There is uproar in parliament and on the streets in India at government plans to let foreign supermarkets into the country.
Threats to the retail sector touch a nerve in India, which is dominated by traditional markets and small shopkeepers.
But even if the government gets its way, will the likes of Tesco be in a rush to set up shop?
