BLACK THEATRE ENSEMBLE Directed and Conceived by Kristin Watson (COL ‘12) Produced by Amanda Phillips (COL ‘13) Advised by Nadia Mahdi, Thesis Adviser A performance installation from the book 'Lost Plays of the Harlem Renaissance 1920-1940' and other related works. Presented as an interactive collage, this 90-minute project will be comprised of “exhibits” featuring poetry, essays, artwork, interactive videos, and music, culminating in a 30-minute performance. As a thesis project, this BTE event will allow audiences to engage and grapple with questions concerning race and society and the portrayal of black artists in dramatic works during this culturally rich period. Original stage and installation adaptations of works by artists such as Langston Hughes, Jessie Fauset, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Claude McKay, Countee Cullen, J.A.
