EU tightens Iran sanctions after UK embassy in Tehran stormed
The US Senate has unanimously approved new sanctions against Iran, despite warnings from the White House that the measure could alienate America's allies.
The legislation penalises foreign banks that do business with Iran's central bank.
On Thursday, the EU also agreed to tighten its sanctions against Iran.
Meanwhile, diplomats working at the Iranian embassy in London have until Friday afternoon to comply with an expulsion order.
The BBC's world affairs correspondent Peter Biles reports.
