Synopsis

The BBC's Nina Robinson presents the third instalment in a series following residents of a housing estate which overlooks the 2012 Olympic site in east London.

It explores a part of the inner city where there are dense blocks of flats and social housing, where many households are on low incomes, situated just ten minutes away from the Olympic Park.

These Games promised much to locals living in what is a largely deprived area, made up of many different nationalities and cultures.

These latest programmes look more closely at poverty and crime, to see how far some of those people who are most excluded from society are living, while an investment of billions of pounds is being spent around them.

Viewed through the eyes of the residents, Great Expectations explores their dreams, hopes and reservations about the forthcoming Games and asks the question, can the Olympics really deliver to all of the community?

This documentary is part of an ongoing series which will stay with residents up until 2012 and beyond, providing regular updates.

This is accompanied by a dedicated website www.bbcworldservice.com/greatexpectations which shows profiles of residents, video and photos.

No Olympic dreams here

Geoff is an estate resident who has worked all his life in the building trade, but since being made redundant two years ago, has been unable to find a job
