France is soon to release $300 million to Libya's new rulers in order to help them recover the rest of their frozen assets. The announcement was made by the French foreign minister Alain Juppe during a short visit to the Libyan capital, Tripoli on Wednesday.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon defended NATO against criticism from Russia, China and other countries, which accuse the alliance of overstepping its UN mandate to protect civilians in Libya. Those who used to be called "freedom fighters" and "revolutionaries" are now refusing to hand in their arms. While at the other end of the spectrum the capital is sinking in trash due to the absence of foreign labour workers and the eight-month long conflict.

Belgian police announced Wednesday they have discovered the dead body of a 45-year-old woman at the home of the gunman, Nordine Amrani who went on the rampage in the city of Liege Tuesday, killed four people, injured some 125 others, some of them critical, and then shot himself.
