Outrage in Egypt over 7-year sentence for Khaled Said's murderers
Egypt’s Public Prosecution Office filed an appeal on Monday with Alexandria’s court of appeals aimed at overturning a previous court ruling against two policemen convicted of killing Khaled Said, the 28-year-old man whose murder in mid-2010 year played a role in triggering Egypt’s January revolution.
In October, Alexandria’s criminal court sentenced policemen Mahmoud Saleh and Awad Ismail to seven years each in prison on manslaughter charges. Much of the Egyptian public, including Said’s family, had been outraged by the sentence, which was widely perceived as being too lenient.
