Morgan Freeman will play David Boies while John Lithgow has the part of Ted Olson in a one-night reading of a new play about California’s Proposition 8 referendum banning gay marriage.

The new play about the legal fight, titled 8, is by Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, the Am Law Daily reports. Once courtroom adversaries, Boies and Olson have joined to challenge Proposition 8 as unconstitutional. The case is pending before the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals after the lawyers won at the trial level.

The reading will take place on Sept. 19.

Boies and Olson were opponents in the fight over the 2000 election results in Bush v. Gore. An HBO movie about the case featured Ed Begley Jr. as Boies (who represented Gore) and Paul Jeans as Olson (who represented Bush), the Am Law Daily says.
