Libya Oil Production Reaches 1m BPD, Expects Full Output by Mid-2012
The Libyan oil industry continues its recovery after an eight-month long conflict that ousted former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi and brought oil production, the country's main source of income to almost total halt, it is now pumping “more than a million” barrels a day.

Syria: Activists Claim More Protesters Targeted Despite Presence of Arab League Mission
After visiting Homs for two days, teams of observers from the Arab League were due to visit three provinces on Thursday, where the protests started and have reportedly seen hundreds of deaths of protesters and, more recently, of regime troops targeted by armed rebels. The virst they visited was the neighbouring province of Hama, Idlib in the north and Deraa on the border with Jordan.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed deep concern Thursday about continuing ethnic tensions in South Sudan's Jonglei state, following reports of fresh rounds of deadly clashes and claims that thousands of armed youth are preparing to attack members of a rival community.

Libya's transitional government said on Sunday that as of next month it will begin to register thousands of former rebel fighters who helped to overthrow the former regime of Muammar Gaddafi in an eight-month long armed struggle in order to integrate them within the security services.

More Arab League Monitors Due in Syria Monday
As about 50 Arab League observers are due to arrive Monday in Syria days after a nine-member advance team landed in the country's capital as part of a deal with the Damascus to try to end months of violence gripping the country, the main opposition group has urged them to go immediately to the central city of Homs, which is reportedly besieged by government forces.
