After a well-watched run on “Dancing With the Stars,” a memoir and a promised-but-possibly canceled reality show, Bristol Palin says she’s taking a break from the spotlight.
The 21-year-old daughter of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has opened up to In Touch about why she moved back home to Alaska. According to the mag, Bristol is now living with her 3-year-old son on her family’s property in Wasilla (in an apartment beneath Sarah Palin’s television studio) and working at the reception desk of an Anchorage dermatologist’s office.
On why she chose to head home, Bristol said the decisive moment came in September, when she was filmed arguing with a heckler at a bar in West Hollywood. In the video — which made the rounds online — Bristol fired back at a man who insulted her mother, asking him, “…is it because you're a homosexual?"
“After that, I just realized that I was over it. I was ready to come home.” Bristol told In Touch, explaining, “I wasn’t really into the Hollywood thing.”
Her son, Tripp, was an important factor, too, Bristol said: “He’s going to be starting preschool soon, so we needed to settle into a routine.”
Tripp's father, Levi Johnston, hasn't been involved in that routine, according to Bristol. Though she sees Johnston out and about occasionally, “He’s not using his visitation, and he’s not paying his child support,” Bristol said, taking the opportunity to jab her ex.
Offering a warmer welcome, Sarah Palin says she's happy about her daughter's return home.
“It’s great having Bristol here,” the former gov told In Touch. “She makes good decisions, and she’s always thinking long term about her and Tripp’s future.”
