Local coffee shops start "Disloyalty Card" campaign

Local cafes are becoming coffee grinding comrades, banding together to push each others businesses and keep Hub caffeine addicts from venturing to the conglomerate coffee chains.

To show off the art of “brewing up high-quality artisanal  coffee,” eight independently owned cafes in Boston have created a “Disloyalty Card.”

Here’s how it works.

Rather than go to a big chain coffee company and get a card punched a bunch of times in order to receive a freebie, these local guys and gals created a card together.

"It’s similar to a customer loyalty card, except that customers are encouraged to visit other businesses. The idea is to build support for local, independent shops in a city dominated by national coffee chains," according to the group's website.

This way, coffee drinkers can hop from one café to the next, getting to try a range of flavorful brews, and then after the eighth card punch you can pick any place of your choice to get a free cup of Joe.

The offer lasts until March 15 and gives Bostonians a chance to check out tons of local coffee houses.
