2012 Presidential Candidates on Evolution

Saturday December 31, 2011

Living in Iowa right now is exciting with the first in the nation caucuses coming up on Tuesday. I believe everyone should have the right to vote and you should vote for a candidate that shares your views and will fight for what you believe in. Of course, one of my hot button issues is science education, particularly the right to teach evolution in the science classroom without being forced to teach non-scientifically sound alternatives like intelligent design or creationism.

This is why I've put together a short guide to all of the major presidential candidates and their views on evolution and evolution education. Please educate yourself on all issues before voting this primary season!

    Evolution Children's Book Wins Award

    Wednesday December 28, 2011

Evolution: How We and All Things Came to Be by Daniel Loxton is a children's book all about evolution that won the Lane Anderson Award and the Silver Birch Award in Canada. However, you won't find it anywhere in the United States. Since it is aimed at children ages 8 to 13, the book is deemed too controversial for publishers in the United States to pick it up.

This is a shame. After all, no one would be forced to buy this book and give it to their children, so those who choose not to believe can always avoid it. However, it is an excellent book with solid science behind it, so why not allow all the others who do choose to believe or allow their children to decide for themselves the opportunity to read this book? Is it any wonder why the United States is behind other nations in science education?

While we're waiting for publishers to come to their senses, check out a list of 5 books about evolution published in 2011.
