"In November, 2011, a couple of my friends and I were driving home on a back road at night in Rutledge, Tennessee when I thought a saw a green light jump in a field," reports Dusty, "like how you would see a grasshopper jump. I knew it wasn't a flashlight because it wasn't a beam. More like an orb. Suddenly there were somewhere around 50 of these orbs glowing in a tree just flashing on and off. Reminded me of fireflies, but they had a basketball-sized glow and different color. A few hundred feet down the road we saw more in other trees! These were in the woods away from any houses. All I can assume is that they were fairies! This was at the change of seasons near water. Perfect for fairies. And we are not the kind of people that would come out and say we believe in fairies, but that's what we saw."
Thanks for that fascinating report, Dusty. It must have been a spectacular sight. I don't think I can agree that they were fairies, but the size of the light globes indicates that they were probably some kind of spook lights (also known as earth lights or ghost lights) or ball lighting. Neither of these rare phenomena are generally seen in such numbers, however, so what you experienced was a rather unique event. Or it was some other unknown phenomenon.

Who or what makes crop circles and formations? Some of them -- like those used as advertising vehicles -- are obviously man made. But what about the rest of them? Are all crop formations man made? Some of them? In our article, "Crop Circles: Best Evidence", we examined the various anomalies that crop formation researchers say lend proof to the notion that many are not man made. Let's now examine the other main question about them: Where do they come from? Here are several theories.
