She Tells the Truth: On Plus Mistakes

Tuesday January 10, 2012

Have you committed a plus-size mistake? This reader sets everyone straight:

"Assuming because she is plus sized she can't wear fashion, that will kill you. I'm a pinup model and I'm a size 16, it's all in how you dress, undergarments are your friend. And the only reason, as I've seen so many comments here saying 'plus size girls are bad with fashion,' that most plus size girls are bad with fashion is because so many stores now cater to 'skinny girl' fashion. Lane Bryant is great...if you're 40, sometimes you can find cute pieces there, but it's clearly tailored to an older crowd."

"Check out Torrid, or Pinupgirlclothing.com, swing dresses that cling to your top for hourglass or pear shaped girls are wonderful, because they accentuate your middle and your chest, and hide your thighs, and hips, but still show the curve of your butt ;) Cut off at the calves, wear some cute heels and there you go! High heels are your best friend, they make you stand straighter and flatten your tummy. Biggest mistake a plus size girl can make is letting her skinny friends get her down."

On My Resolution

Saturday December 31, 2011

I had someone email me today and ask about my resolution. Here we go! Some people might scoff at resolutions, but I figured that it's a nice time to work on myself along with the rest of the world.

I divide mine into a fun resolution and a serious resolution. The fun one? To spend more time sewing clothes for myself to get the perfect fit. I'm tired of waltzing into a store and buying something mediocre on sale. More tailoring in 2012! The serious resolution? To stay positive and bright -- true to my real self. What about you?
