Jimmy Fallon Takes on Tim Tebow

Saturday January 14, 2012

If you missed Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, you missed one of the funniest musical comedy skits Jimmy's performed since his "History of Rap" with Justin Timberlake.

In the bit, Fallon dresses as David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust - if Ziggy Stardust had a love child with Tim Tebow - and sings a Tebowized version of Bowie's classic "Major Tom."

The song starts with Tebow speaking with Jesus, asking him to be there for him when the Denver Broncos quarterback takes on the New England Patriots this weekend.

Then the lyrics shift to Jesus speaking with Tebow. "This is Jesus Christ to Tim Tebow," Fallon sings. "Lee - EE - eave me alone." Jesus explains to Tebow that Sunday is his day off and he's tired of watching Denver Broncos games.

Could Stephen Colbert Win the South Carolina GOP Presidential Nomination?

Friday January 13, 2012

Fans of Stephen Colbert saw the late night talk show host and fake-conservative pundit announce his bid for the GOP presidential nomination in South Carolina - and just South Carolina - Thursday night.

The announcement came after a Public Policy Polling survey showed Colbert beating real GOP hopeful Jon Huntsman - if Colbert were on the ballot in South Carolina.

But he's not. And he's not likely to be. In fact, it's virtually impossible. The deadline to get on the ballot in the southern state was Nov. 1, and South Carolina forbids write-in votes in presidential primaries. The primary is set for Jan. 21, next Saturday.

To be honest, Colbert mentioned that he was only exploring his chances to run (which he'll likely announce are not possible as we get closer to next Saturday).

What Colbert is really doing is putting the spotlight on super PACs, political action committees that are meant to have no coordination with candidates, but are often organized and managed by people close to the candidates, such as former staffers, business partners and close friends. Donors can fund super PACs without limits.

Colbert mocked the super PAC rules by passing control of his super PAC, "Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow," to his former co-worker and friend, Jon Stewart, host of The Daily Show. Stewart, who promised to have no coordination with Colbert and learn nothing of his campaign plans - unless he accidentally tuned into The Colbert Report - changed the name of the super PAC to "The Definitely Not Coordinated with Stephen Colbert Super PAC."

Chelsea Handler Moving into Conan’s Old Studio; Doesn’t Have Time to be Chelsea on Chelsea

Monday January 9, 2012

Talk show host Chelsea Handler's popular program has apparently grown too big for its britches - and is moving to a new studio. Specifically, Chelsea Lately is taking over legendary entertainer Jack Benny's old studio.

Oh, yeah, before we forget, the previous owner was a talk show host, too: Conan O'Brien. O'Brien was the studio's tenant briefly when he hosted The Tonight Show.

The new studio will get a redesign, though it won't stray too far from the look and feel of the current set. Hanlder told reporters at the winter Television Critics Association press tour that it would be "similar to what's on TV."

She also said there's a good reason she's not playing the fictional Chelsea Handler on her new sit-com, Are You There, Chelsea?

Put simply, Handler doesn't have time between Chelsea Lately, its spin-off comedy show, After Lately, her stand-up and writing. She will appear as her fictional sister, Sloane, in seven episodes (about half) this season. The program premieres Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. on NBC.

‘The Martha Stewart Show’ Coming to an End

Sunday January 8, 2012

Poor ratings for The Martha Stewart Show forced The Hallmark Channel to cancel the program. Martha Stewart's long-running talk show will come to an end in April, though re-runs will continue through the summer.

The final few months will be like a smaller version of the end of The Oprah Winfrey Show, with small celebrations and a lavish final episode.

There is a chance the show could be resurrected in some form in the future. Though poor ratings and high production values have nixed the current program, if Martha Stewart's company brings production in-house, production costs could drop. Lower costs would create a better business model for its niche audience - and The Martha Stewart Show could return.

When and in what way is anyone's guess.
