AMMAN (Petra) — Jordan will receive 50,000 tonnes of wheat from the US through the port of Aqaba on Thursday.

The shipment, valued at around $14 million, is a grant from the US, Ministry of Industry and Trade Spokesperson Yanal Bermawi said, adding that the ministry will also receive another 100,000 tonnes of wheat from the US in the next two months under a purchase agreement, valued at around $28 million ($281 per tonne).

The country currently has 575,000 tonnes of wheat, which is sufficient to meet local demand for over eight months, as Jordan consumes around 70,000 tonnes per month.
