AMMAN – A 27-year-old Jordanian man was killed in the Syrian city of Hama on Monday by Shabiha, pro-regime militiamen, his father Hafez Abu Osbeh said on Tuesday.

Ahmad Abu Osbeh, born in 1985, owned a house in the central city of Hama, where his Palestinian Syrian mother lives.

He used to travel between Jordan and unrest-hit Syria very often, the father told The Jordan Times over the phone.

On the conditions surrounding his son’s murder, he explained that Ahmad was kidnapped by Shabiha, or pro-regime armed men, on Friday night after he left home for shopping, adding that the next day he called his mother telling her he was with friends.

“His mother knew that he was not fine from his voice,” Abu Osbeh said, adding that the son asked his mother to pray for him.

The father, who was jailed in Syria for 20 years on political charges, noted that the pro-Bashar Assad thugs killed Ahmad on Monday afternoon and dumped his body in the street.

Accusing the Shabiha of killing his son, Abu Osbeh indicated that Ahmad was hit by seven bullets, three of them to the head.

Asked if his son had ever taken part in the 10-month protests against Assad’s regime, he replied “never”.

Abu Osbeh, who is also an activist defending Jordanian prisoners in Syrian jails, said the body of his son is expected to arrive in the Kingdom by Wednesday to be buried in his hometown of Ruseifa.

“The Jordanian embassy in Damascus called me today and informed me that they will bring the body within the coming 24 hours,” he noted.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mohammad Kayed told The Jordan Times that the embassy will work on bringing the body of the young Jordanian back very soon, adding the ministry was informed about the incident on Tuesday by the father.
