CAIRO: Egyptian social networking websites have been buzzing about the kiss on the cheek that Mohamed ElBaradei gave to American actress Angelina Jolie as he handed her an award for her documentary “The Land Of Blood and Honey,” which won the award for best film in the special section Cinema for Peace at the Berlin Film Festival.

People shared the video of the ceremony that shows Jolie receiving the award and kissing ElBaradei, who agreed to head the special section at the film festival and was assigned to choose the winning film.

ElBaradei is the former head of the International Atomic Energy Agency and a former Egyptian presidential nominee, having only within the past month withdrawn his candidacy.

He is known for his anti-American stance during the Iraq invasion when he repeatedly declared the absence of weapons of mass destruction in the now devastated country and has been a prominent anti-military rule figure in Egypt since the January 2011 uprising ousted President Hosni Mubarak from three decades of rule.
