U.S. Yahoo! Editorial says: On 24 July, makeshift shelters, some
covered with bright-orange tarpaulin,
stand in the Badbado camp in Mogadishu,
the capital. The shelters are seen from
behind a soldier's gun, resting in a
vehicle that is part of a passing AMISOM
(African Union Mission in Somalia)
convoy. AMISOM was established by the
United Nations to support peace,
stability and the safe delivery of
humanitarian aid in the country. Its
mandate is presently extended until 30
September 2011. The Badbado camp,
established three weeks ago, shelters
almost 30,000 people who have been
displaced from rural areas more affected
by the drought.

U.S. Yahoo! Editorial says: Somalia, 2011: An armed soldier monitors
children and women in a food
distribution queue, at a displacement
camp in Mogadishu, the still-embattled
capital. Famine has been declared in two
areas of southern Somalia, part of a
drought and nutrition crisis that now
threatens 11 million people in the Horn
of Africa. UNICEF and partners are
rapidly expanding assistance throughout
the region.

U.S. Yahoo! Editorial says: A Somali refugee family that arrived in
recent weeks at the Dadaab camp in
northeastern Kenya disassembles their
house and pack their belongings to move
into a new extension of the world's
largest refugee settlement. Swelled with
tens of thousands of recent arrivals
fleeing drought in Somalia, the camp has
been unable to absorb the newest
arrivals. The Lutheran World Federation,
a member of the ACT Alliance, is manager
of the camp and on July 25 began moving
hundreds of families into tents in the
extension.
U.S. Yahoo! Editorial says: Kenya, 2011: A child is vaccinated
against measles in the Dadaab refugee
camp. In response to the region’s
drought crisis, over 400,000 Somalis
have sought food and safety in Dadaab,
where crowded conditions and poor
immunity leave them vulnerable to
disease outbreaks. UNICEF and partners
have reached over 300,000 children in
mass immunization campaigns in the
drought-affected parts of Kenya and
Somalia.

É muito triste ver toda esta situação. A que ponto chegou a falta de humanidade dos governantes mundiais que não tomam uma atitude para pelo menos amenizar todo este sofrimento.
