Hatem Oda, head of the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics ‎‎(NRIAG), said a magnitude 4.2 earthquake hit the south of Aswan Monday. ‎

The temblor struck at 19:01 CTM and was centred in Nasr Lake. There has not yet been any reports of property damage nor deaths. ‎

Oda pointed out that the residents of Aswan proper did not feel the tremor, but it was felt 70 km south of ‎the Upper Egyptian governorate. ‎

Consequently, the High Dam was not affected by the quake whatsoever, he added. ‎

Many years ago, this area, Oda says, used to witness many earthquakes, however no shakes ‎have been reported in the recent years until yesterday.‎
