    • On August 15, the trustees adopted course offerings including:

      • two 2-year and two 3-year diploma courses

      • three 1-year short courses in professional subjects

      • a 1-year short course for rural teachers

      • and plans for the diploma courses to extend into 4-year professional courses when there was enough demand

  • The first faculty meeting was held in the fall of 1914, the Saturday before classes began. It was held in the Hotel Milikin, on the corner of Main and Wooster streets.

  • First classes started in rented portions of the Armory Building because campus buildings were not yet ready.

  • Smoking was prohibited in campus buildings by faculty and students, and smoking in public by faculty was frowned upon.

  • Tuition was free; students only paid for materials.
