Public Prosecutor Must Open Immediate Investigations into the Ministry of Interior's Involvement in Fomenting Prison Violence
The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) condemns the involvement of the Ministry of Interior and its subsidiary department, the Prisons Authority, in the killing and injury of prisoners in Egyptian prisoners since the beginning of the Revolution (25 January), and in particular over the last few days. Numerous testimonies attest to the Prisons Authority’s involvement in creating a state of serious unrest in a number of prisons.

Dozens Dead and Hundreds Injured at the Shebin al-Kom Prison as the Prison Administration Continues to Use Excessive Force Against Inmates
The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) today called for an immediate investigation into the excessive violence being used by officers at the Shebin al-Kom Prison in Monufiya against prison inmates since 25 January, which has left dozens dead and hundreds more injured. The EIPR asked the Public Prosecutor to take immediate action to stop the use of violence against prisoners and provide the necessary medical care for the injured and sick.

Complaint to the Public Prosecutor for an Immediate Investigation into the Murder of Dozens of Al-Qata Prison Inmates
Update 1 March 2011: The Prosecutor for North Giza, Mahmoud Al Hefnawy, visited Al-Qata prison on 27 February, to inspect the place and register the situation, including traces of bullets impacts in the walls of the cell-blocks and traces in the prison administration and the prison hospital that caught fire.

The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights Releases a Report on the Law to Combat Trafficking in Persons
The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) released today a report entitled "Law on Combating Trafficking in Persons: A Welcome Step that Requires Careful Implementation​". The report welcomes Law no 64/2010 on Combating Trafficking in Persons as a positive step to address human trafficking crimes, and provides the state with recommendations for the implementation of the law's provisions.
