EIPR Submits New Complaint against Ongoing Police Intimidation of those Injured in the Revolution

The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) filed a second complaint with the Public Prosecutor on 4 September (no. 18404/2011) asking for an investigation into the ongoing police intimidation of Mohamed Marzouk, who was shot by police officers on Friday, 28 January (known as the ‘Friday of Rage’). Policemen are pressuring Marzouk to withdraw his complaint against them.

Police officers in the Marg Police Department are putting widespread pressure on citizens to drop their complaints, and then pursue citizens who complain about this pressure

Mohamed Marzouk, who is living away from home for fear of his pursuit by police officers, has been held in an undisclosed location so that he would drop his complaint and has suffered threats against his family

The EIPR demands the provision of real protection to him and to all families of the martyrs and the injured

EIPR Urges Security Bodies to Liberate Hospitals from the Control of Thugs

The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) urged the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces to take rapid measures to protect hospitals and doctors from the repeated attacks they have sustained over the last four weeks.

Public Prosecutor Must Open Immediate Investigations into the Ministry of Interior's Involvement in Fomenting Prison Violence

The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) condemns the involvement of the Ministry of Interior and its subsidiary department, the Prisons Authority, in the killing and injury of prisoners in Egyptian prisoners since the beginning of the Revolution (25 January), and in particular over the last few days. Numerous testimonies attest to the Prisons Authority’s involvement in creating a state of serious unrest in a number of prisons.

Dozens Dead and Hundreds Injured at the Shebin al-Kom Prison as the Prison Administration Continues to Use Excessive Force Against Inmates

The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) today called for an immediate investigation into the excessive violence being used by officers at the Shebin al-Kom Prison in Monufiya against prison inmates since 25 January, which has left dozens dead and hundreds more injured. The EIPR asked the Public Prosecutor to take immediate action to stop the use of violence against prisoners and provide the necessary medical care for the injured and sick.

The Egyptian Government Must Positively Respond to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Request for a Facts Finding Mission

Member organizations of the Forum of Independent Egyptian Human Rights Organizations (the Forum) welcome the request filed by the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) with the Egyptian government, asking for approval to send an official fact-finding mission of international experts to assess the status of human rights in the country.

Complaint to the Public Prosecutor for an Immediate Investigation into the Murder of Dozens of Al-Qata Prison Inmates

Update 1 March 2011: The Prosecutor for North Giza, Mahmoud Al Hefnawy, visited Al-Qata prison on 27 February, to inspect the place and register the situation, including traces of bullets impacts in the walls of the cell-blocks and traces in the prison administration and the prison hospital that caught fire.
