Mr. Alphonse Munyantwali is the Governor of the Southern Province

The Governor of Province is the Representative of the Government in the province, in charge of coordinating implementation of the mandate of the province.

. The Governor of Province is appointed by a Presidential Decree with the approval of the Senate. He/she is removed from his/her duties by a Presidential Decree with the approval of the Cabinet

Allowances reserved for the Governor of Province are established by a Presidential Decree.

The years the Governor spends at the head of the province are taken into account for his/her promotion at the level of organs or ranks he / she resumes his State functions which he / she used to exercise before being appointed governor when he / she is nominated for new public responsibilities.

When the Governor of Province leaves his functions without being blamed for any professional misconduct, he/she continues receiving his/her monthly allowances he/ she is entitled to for a period of six (6) months, excluding his function allowances.

When he/she is transferred to the other public services before six (6) months, he/she has no right to any other allowance from the moment he/she begins receiving the salary.
