The Ogoni vs oil giant Shell
Legal case highlights real cost of Nigerian oil extraction.

Nigeria’s Ogoni people are taking their fight against Shell to the US Supreme Court. In a landmark case, the plaintiffs are accusing the oil giant of complicity in human rights violations committed against them in the 1990s.
Ogoni activists say the company had a direct role with the Nigerian government in actively suppressing resistance to oil exploration in the Niger Delta.
