  1. 1830:

Another weekend of football draws to a close. Today alone we've had 13 goals, three sendings off (all in the same game), one trophy won and another denied. Congratulations to Rangers, Chesterfield and Newcastle, commiserations to Celtic, Swindon and West Brom and an offering somewhere in the middle for Birmingham and Cardiff. Join Johm Stanton for live text commentary of Manchester United v Fulham tomorrow night. I'll see thee.

  2. 1827:

Remember to watch MOTD2 tonight on BBC Two at 2200 BST, followed by highlights from the JPT final in the Football League show at 2320 on the same channel. There will be further reaction to today's games on the BBC Sport website.

  3.

David Pascal on Twitter: "I hope Newcastle keep the momentum and finish fifth or sixth this season. Great game today."

  4. 1820:

West Brom manager Roy Hodgson: "The major fault for our side is that we went 3-0 down. We were mugged on two very good, quick counter-attacks. Those goals came when we had the ball and we really should have been doing something with it.

"The players, in the second half, had a good go at trying to retrieve the situation and get a bit of pride back. We won the second half, but that's the only minor consolation that I can take from the game. This is a setback and a major disappointment, and we knew today wouldn't be easy. Newcastle have been exceptional this season.

"I'm very satisfied with our season though, and I think today's is a lesson for us and we will certainly learn something from it. James Morrison has suffered a nasty injury, hurting ligaments in his knee. He will be out for the rest of the season, I would think."

  5.

Jack Evripidous "If Newcastle qualify for Europe, Mike Ashley will invest in the squad. After all he's a businessman and Europe = Money"

  6. 1816:

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew: "First half we played some really fantastic stuff. I said before the game that at the training ground there was a new buoyancy after the win against Norwich and today it was champagne stuff. Demba,[Ba], Papiss [Cisse] and [Hatem] Ben Arfa are a real front three.

"After their goal we started to get a little bit nervous but we managed to see it out. We had chances to get the fourth goal, we knew that would seal it and that was my half-time message. But we managed to see it out with the three goals.

"We've been phenomenal all year, the players have worked so hard and deserve all the plaudits they get. This is a tough place to come and they've won with something to spare. You don't amass those points without quality. Today I was pleased with our control of the game, our passing and with players like we have at the top of the pitch you're going to score goals."

  7.

Stephen Rawlings on Twitter: "Second season syndrome? This IS our second season!"

  8.

Andrew texts: "In reply to Harry McCrea (1758), that's what the transfer window is for. I just hope Pardew gets the funds."

  9.

Toby Robinson on Twitter: "Brilliant result for Newcastle today. European football? Yes please!"

  10. 1809:

An entertaining afternoon of football that. And to top it all off it's still nice and bright outside, not that I've taken a lung-full of fresh air in about eight hours. Manager reaction coming up.

  11.

Paul Robson on Twitter: "Phew! Newcastle are now mathematically safe from relegation."

  12.

Krishan on Twitter: "Newcastle may need to be aware of 'second season' syndrome for many players…"

  13. 1802:

Newcastle go level with fifth-placed Chelsea on 50 points (separated by the Blues vastly superior goal difference). Alan Pardew's men are five points behind Tottenham in fourth and eight ahead of seventh-placed Liverpool. West Brom remain 14th with 36 points, three ahead of Aston Villa in 15th. They have a cushion, but will want to get another win under their belt sooner rather than later to dismiss any potential relegation talk.

  14.

Harry McCrea on Twitter: "Europe will be the test of Newcastle's squad. Strength-in-depth is important there. Not sure they have it, especially at the back."

  15.

Grant Jones on Twitter: "Exciting times for Newcastle but will they be able to refuse big money offers in the summer?"

  16. 1758:
    FULL-TIMEWest Brom 1-3 Newcastle
  17. 1758:

Well into that seven minutes of injury time now. Newcastle look to have seen this out. It will be a deserved three points for Alan Pardew's men. West Brom simply couldn't live with United's front three in the first half and saw any potential comeback halted when injuries took them down to 10 men.

  18.

Oliver Rhodes on Twitter: "Sloppy performance from West Brom. Too many incomplete passes."

  19.

Michael Blighe on Twitter: "Has Sekar C (1748) forgotten that the four teams above Chelsea in the league have played European football as well?"

  20. 1755:

Marc-Antoine Fortune looking to spark something for West Brom but James Perch clears his cross. The same defender then does superbly from another cross to head clear with Shane Long lurking behind him.

  21. 1754:

West Brom really don't look like they have enough to cause a major shock in these last few minutes. Newcastle are looking calm and keeping the ball in the Baggies half.

  22. 1751:

And West Brom are threatening. Shane Long finds space in the box but the ball is not quite under his control. A cross does finally come but Newcastle are able to bundle the ball from danger. We are going to have seven minutes of injury time. It's a tall order for West Brom, even with that added.

  23. 1750:

Newcastle, with the luxury of an extra man, are looking comfortable now. A West Brom goal would change that, though.

  24.

Sekar C on Twitter: "Newcastle are level with Chelsea bcoz they haven't played in Europe. Its very dificult to handle both Europe and premier league"

  25. 1748:

Former Newcastle assistant manager Iain Dowie is at the Hawthorns for BBC Radio 5 live: "It's a shame, really. We could have a grandstand finish, but Roy Hodgson's made all his three changes and his team are now down to 10 men, through no fault of his own."

  26. 1748:

Newcastle with a chance... Shola Ameobi rises to head across goal, but Demba Ba is offside. Doesn't matter, though, as Ba cannot reach the ball.

  27. 1746:

Paul Scharner finds himself in a good position to cross from the right but he over-hits it terribly with team-mates waiting in the box and the chance is gone. Very wasteful from the substitute.

  28. 1744:

And West Brom have another man down now. It is Liam Ridgewell, who appears to have been caught by Shola Ameobi's forearm on his nose. Thankfully, for West Brom, he will be able to continue. One thing is for certain, there'll be plenty of added time. But can West Brom put themselves in a position to use it to a positive end?

  29. 1743:

Roy Hodgson is clearly unhappy down on the touchline. It's unsurprising. His team may be about to find themselves a man light for the remaining nine or so minutes. Morrison is helped from the pitch and straight down the tunnel.

  30. 1741:

Speaking of which, James Morrison is down following a collision with Demba Ba. He caught his foot as Ba challenged him. This is worrying for the home side, who still trail by two goals.

  31. 1740:

That is all the substitutions for both sides. Any further injuries will leave the teams a man light for the remainder of the game.

  32. 1738:
SUBSTITUTIONNewcastle - Shane Ferguson on for Papiss Cisse
  33. 1738:

Papiss Cisse is down and looking hurt after diving in for a tackle. Looks like his game is over. In fact, the stretcher is used to carry him off. Hopefully, that is just a precaution.

  34. 1736:
SUBSTITUTIONNewcastle - Shola Ameobi on for Hatem Ben Arfa
  35. 1736:

Paul Scharner enters the fray. No stranger to a new haircut the West Brom man. He appears to be going for Don Draper at the moment. And to be fair, Alan Pardew is not unlike Roger Sterling.

  36. 1734:
SUBSTITUTIONWest Brom - Paul Scharner on for Youssouf Mulumbu
  37.

Free-kick to Newcastle. Yohan Cabaye fancies it, but he curls his effort from 30 yards over the bar.

  38.

Benjamin Watts on Twitter: "Ben Arfa is some player, though in primary school he'd have been known as a 'hogger'…"

  39. 1729:
    YELLOW CARDNewcastle - Mike Williamson

Mike Williamson is booked for an aerial clash with Shane Long as he goes straight into the back of the West Brom striker. Long is floored and not happy when he gets up. From the resulting free-kick, the ball is headed clear to Liam Ridgewell, who balloons an effort over the bar from the edge of the box.

  40.

Christopher Wright on Twitter: "Newcastle have done this all season. We can't put a game to bed to save our lives."

  41. 1727:

Hatem Ben Arfa is some player. He skips away from a couple of West Brom players in midfield and then almost feeds in Papiss Cisse, but a West Brom defender clears just ahead of the striker.

  42.

Dave Clements on Twitter: "Why are Newcastle players bearing the Brunt of the pun work? Let's try Albion too, I know it's a Long shot mind you"

  43. 1724:

I'm cursing it now, but there are definitely more goals in this. Both sides look more than capable of getting more. Youssouf Mulumbu cuts in from the right but his shot from the edge of the area is blocked by Mike Williamson.

  44. 1722:

West Brom coursing with belief now. Peter Odemwingie drives a cross over from the right but it is too powerful for anyone to get on the end of and danger is averted.

  45.

Jason Curtis on Twitter: "Have West Brom taken out a Cisse-and-desist order in the second half?"

  46. 1719:

Former Newcastle assistant manager Iain Dowie is at the Hawthorns for BBC Radio 5 live: "I think this is going to be a very good second half. You can sense there is a greater belief around the Hawthorns now."

  47.

C Chambers on Twitter: "Here we go again. Don't screw this up Newcastle!"

  48. 1718:

Ben Foster keeps West Brom hopes alive as Hatem Ben Arfa drives into the West Brom box. The Frenchman's low shot is destined for the bottom corner until Foster gets down to palm it behind. Nothing comes from the resulting corner.

  49.

Gary Snoad on Twitter: "Let the comeback begin…"

  50. 1716:

West Brom look to keep the momentum going as Peter Odemwingie shoots from a tight angle on the right. Tim Krul is well-placed at the near post to block behind, though. Newcastle rocking a bit now.

  51. 1713:
GOALWest Brom 1-3 Newcastle - Shane Long (52 mins)

Newcastle have given West Brom a lifeline into this game. A ball is flighted over the top of the Newcastle defence but doesn't look too threatening until Mike Williamson make a hash of it and takes it away from keeper Tim Krul as he comes to gather and straight into the path of Shane Long, who gratefully finishes into the empty net. Surely lightning can't strike twice again between these two?

  52.

Richard in Nuneaton texts: "Newcastle fans, instead of mocking Liverpool for buying Carroll, you should be thanking us. You wouldn't be where you are in the league without that money. Maybe we could get a special award at your end of season presentation?"

  53. 1711:

Former Newcastle assistant manager Iain Dowie is at the Hawthorns for BBC Radio 5 live: "Alan Pardew, having lost five of his last six away games, has freshened things up here. They have been very positive and started the game really very well. Ben Arfa has really run the show."

  54.

Kris texts: "Re 1651 - For Newcastle's sake let's just hope they don't Cisse out. That'd be very Krul on them after their Marveauxlous season so far…"

  55. 1710:

Newcastle again under pressure as Youssouf Mulumbu's shot is deflected wide of goal. Then, down the other end, the away side could wrap things up as Papiss Cisse finds himself clean through but has his shot saved by Ben Foster.

  56. 1709:

Early chance for West Brom as Youssouf Mulumbu passes square to James Morrison on the edge of the area but his shot is sliced wide of goal. Newcastle will be aware that an early storm is coming from the home side this half. It is up to them to weather it.

  57. 1707:

So West Brom make two changes in the hope of getting their way back into the game, while Newcastle make an enforced substitution with Davide Santon on for the injured Coloccini.

  58. 1706:
SUBSTITUTIONNewcastle - Davide Santon on for Fabricio Coloccini
  59. 1706:
SUBSTITUTIONWest Brom - Chris Brunt and Shane Long for Jerome Thomas and Keith Andrews
  60. 1706:
    KICK-OFFWest Brom 0-3 Newcastle

The second half is under way.

  61. 1705:

So, as it stands, Newcastle are going to get a very satisfying revenge for the Baggies 3-2 win at Sports Direct Arena earlier this season. The teams are making their way back out on to the pitch. I imagine the West Brom players' ears are still ringing from Roy's team talk.

  62.

A "realistic Newcastle fan" texts: "Okay, little reality check needed here, or we become in danger of slipping in to old, delusional days pre-relegation. NUFC are a good team, but we can't even begin to dream of a Champions League place. Sixth place would be brilliant. Fifth would be amazing. But fourth, I'm afraid, simply won't happen. As much as we'd all like it to."

  63.

akinyemi jegede on Twitter: "Mr Roy needs to learn from Mr Harry. Don't distract yourself with the England job."

  64.

Mike Yuill on Twitter: "And there, ladies and gents, goes your latest contender for the England job. Take a bow Roy…"

  65. 1657:

That was as comprehensive as you get from Newcastle. They tore into West Brom early on, defended superbly to keep out the response and then struck with a classic counter-attack. Things will feel prety good in the visitors dressing room right now. A word of warning, though. Newcastle were 3-0 up against West Brom at what was then St James' Park on the last day of last season and ended up drawing 3-3.

  66. 1653:

Former Newcastle assistant manager Iain Dowie is at the Hawthorns for BBC Radio 5 live: "It doesn't get better than that as an away performance. Newcastle have totally dominated this game."

  67.

Karl Ticehurst on Twitter: "Newcastle have raised the Ba this season. Could knock Chelsea off their Perch. They've got (Ben) Arfa chance of Europe now."

  68. 1651:
BBC MOTD's Steve Wilson at the Hawthorns:HALF-TIMEWest Brom 0-3 Newcastle

"It's an excellent first half for Newcastle United - and Papiss Cisse in particular. Newcastle have been irrepressible."

  69. 1651:

West Brom looking for a late goal in the half. A long ball forward is too far ahead of Peter Odemwingie, though, and, after hesitating for a second, Tim Krul gathers.

  70.

Drew Crawford on Twitter: "Krul, Coloccini, S Taylor, Santon, Marveaux, Tioté, Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Ba and Papiss = £34.5m. Andy Carroll = £35m."

  71. 1649:

Two minutes of added time now being played.

  72.

Kev, a Newcastle fan in Chiswick, texts: "Hatem Ben Arfa - the Geordie Messi!"

  73. 1647:

No need to rush now on Newcatle's part. Their lead is substantial. West Brom haven't recovered from the third goal, which was a big, big blow after the Baggies had enjoyed a decent spell.

  74.

Barty on Twitter: "Come on Newcastle... just 13 more goals for 5th...."

  75.

Andrew Wilson on Twitter: "I think Roy Hodgson's train just pulled into Frustration Station..."

Having called at Early Blow, Major Setback and Game Over Parkway.

  76. 1643:

Fabricio Coloccini is being a soldier. Looks like he wants to try and see it through to the break. There are only a few minutes until that comes.

  77.

Alexander Slater on Twitter: "Can Newcastle start dreaming of the Champions League? Stranger things have happened..."

  78. 1642:

Fabricio Coloccini is limping. Looks like he won't last the half. Davide Santon is being warmed up.

  79.

Mfundo Mpotulo "Imagine what Alan Pardew could do with the kind of money liverpool have had, maybe he might be there next season to show us"

  80. 1640:

Former Newcastle assistant manager Iain Dowie is at the Hawthorns for BBC Radio 5 live: "Great play from Ben Arfa and Ba and Cisse just whips it in. Game over, I'd say."

  81. 1637:
GOALWest Brom 0-3 Newcastle - Papiss Cisse (34 mins)

Fantastic stuff from Newcastle. They are practically out of sight with just over an hour gone. The ball is passed to Demba Ba in the box and his neat back-heel finds Hatem Ben Arfa - now moving much better - and his pull-back is fired home by Papiss Cisse for his second of the game and fifth in a Newcastle shirt. On the touchline, Roy Hodgson is absolutely livid.

  82. 1637:

The ball is in the net courtesy of a West Brom boot from close range, but it will not count as the supplier, Marc-Antoine Fortune, was offside when he was put in by Jerome Thomas down the left.

  83. 1635:

There appears to be problems with the 5 live commentary on this game at the moment. Apologies for that. We are working to get it right ASAP.

  84. 1633:

Former Newcastle assistant manager Iain Dowie is at the Hawthorns for BBC Radio 5 live: "This has actually been a very good game. Newcastle dominated the early stages but now we're seeing a good West Brom response."

  85. 1633:

Hatem Ben Arfa, the impressive scorer of Newcastle's second goal, is limping. He doesn't look comfortable. Play continuing, though.

  86. 1632:

After showing their attacking prowess early on, Newcastle are having to demonstrate their defensive quality now. They are doing well too. Soaking up what West Brom throw at them and then looking to hit on the break. Decent game this.

  87.

Infostrada has Tweeted: "Newcastle United failed to beat West Brom on the final day of last season's Premier League despite holding a 3-0 lead."

  88. 1630:

West Brom continue to edge back into the game. They've not tested Tim Krul properly yet, though. Liam Ridgewell's cross is met well by Marc-Antoine Fortune but the header goes harmlessly over the bar.

  89.

Kier Wiater Carnihan on Twitter: "Re 1618 - Newcastle team of the season? Think Swansea and Norwich followers would disagree..."

  90.

Ben texts: "Should have put a cheeky bet on Newcastle going fifth…"

  91. 1627:

A lot of the damage is done, but West Brom have at least responded to going two down. Marc-Antoine Fortune is just unable to work anything in the box before Newcastle clear. It is a toe-hold in the game, nothing more.

  92.

Nick Neill on Twitter: "I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Arsenal need to sign a Newcastle striker in the summer. Any one will do."

I'm sure they'd let Nile Ranger go.

  93.

Jonathan Hacker on Twitter: "A very exciting time for all Newcastle supporters. Two or three quality signings in the summer and they could be a real force."

  94.

Matt Jones on Twitter: "At this strike rate of one every six minutes, Newcastle will close that 15 goal difference on Chelsea to go fouth…"

  95. 1621:

West Brom looking to hit back after Newcastle's pening two-goal salvo. They have a corner. It is headed behind by Yohan Cabaye giving the home side a second go. This one is overhit but salvaged and returned to the middle to give James Morrison a chance to fire at goal from the edge of the area. It is powerfully hit but wide.

  96.

Robert Bosworth on Twitter: "While most Premier League teams seem to have been underperforming this season, there's Newcastle. Team of the season by an absolute mile."

  97. 1618:

Former Newcastle assistant manager Iain Dowie is at the Hawthorns for BBC Radio 5 live: "That was a great counter attack. Ben Arfa managed to shape onto his strong left foot, and it's a top drawer footage. 2-0, and a well-deserved 2-0. An outstanding start by Alan Pardew's side, and he'll be delighted."

  98. 1615:
GOALWest Brom 0-2 Newcastle - Hatem Ben Arfa (12 mins)

Newcastle are on fire at the Hawthorns. A superb counter-attack sees them race into a 2-0 lead. Hatem Ben Arfa plays a one-two with Yohan Cabaye and then an exchanges passes with Papiss Cisse before cutting inside into the box and firing left-footed into the net. The visiting Toon Army erupts. West Brom look shell-shocked.

  99.

Hashim Alam on Twitter: "Ba and Cisse. The next Cole and Yorke strike duo."

  100. 1614:

Newcastle have made a really good start. They look very lively and with Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba up front they are a real threat. Cisse's goal was his fourth for United since joining in January.

  101.

Toby on Twitter: "Cisse again! Who needs Ba?"

  102. 1609:
GOALWest Brom 0-1 Newcastle - Papiss Cisse (6 mins)

A well-worked goal gives Newcastle the lead following a bright start from the visitors. Hatim Ben Arfa is found out wide and his cross is right along the six yard box where Papiss Cisse is waiting to side-foot in. Is he offside? There's a suggestion of it when Ben Arfa played the ball across but he is the forward and rightly has the benefit of the doubt.

  103. 1609:

First chance at the Hawthorns goes to Newcastle as Liam Ridgewell's headed clearance from a Papiss Cisse cross is hammered back by Demba Ba. His effort is into the ground first, though, which takes the sting out of it and allows Ben Foster to tip over.

  104.

Toby on Twitter: "Roy Hodgson: great manager with the smaller clubs/countries, but not sure if he has what it takes to manage England."

  105. 1606:

So, with a doff of the cap to Chesterfield I turn to matters in the Premier League, specifically the Hawthorns, where West Brom are taking on Newcastle.

  106. 1606:

Christopher Kapilan on Twitter: "Ben Arfa, Ba and Cisse. As good a strikeforce as any in the Premier League…"

  107. 1605:

Former Newcastle assistant manager Iain Dowie is at the Hawthorns for BBC Radio 5 live: "I think these are two well-discipline sides. I don't this will produce a glut of goals, but I'm fascinated to see Roy Hodgson's defensive setup, which can be very resolute. But Newcastle's forward's, Ba and Cisse, can cause problems for any defence in this league."

  108. 1604:
    KICK-OFFWest Brom v Newcastle

There is a superbly undertaken minute of applause for West Brom great Ray Barlow before the game gets under way.

  109. 1603:

The Chesterfield players look equally spent, but the smiles on their faces tell the story. Jack Lester leads his team up the stairs. The Spireites fans wave their flags as Lester accepts the trophy and lifts it into the air.

  110. 1601:

Swindon players head up the steps at Wembley to receive their runners-up medals. Paolo Di Canio accepting handshakes from the crowd. They look flat out to a man.

  111. 1559:
West Brom v Newcastle (1600 BST)

After seeing West Brom's three-match winning streak ended by defeat at Manchester United and a draw at Wigan, manager Roy Hodgson says: "We need to make certain we return to the style of football that we produced in that run." Newcastle counterpart Alan Pardew feels "West Brom away is one of the toughest fixtures", admitting "we'll be on our guard to make sure we get something out of the game".

  112.

Jack in Newcastle texts: "Sitting at work waiting to tell trains where to go and watching your text commentary with the radio on waiting for my much-loved Toon. Biggest game of the season for us - win today and Europa league is believable. How many teams around us are breaking even financially and have the prospects we do? Well done Mike Ashley."

  113. 1558:

The teams are coming out at the Hawthorns, all sporting "Get well soon Fabrice Muamba T-shirts".

  114. 1557:

Former Torquay player Chris Hargreaves is at Wembley for BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "I feel desperately sorry for the Swindon fans. It's a club that deserves success. But the effort and work rate of the Chesterfield players made it an unbelievable performance. It's just a brilliant day for Chesterfield's supporters. Swindon must now focus on League Two, dominate it and win it."

  115. 1557:

Former Torquay player Chris Hargreaves is at Wembley for BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "That's a way to celebrate a goal! The top comes off and the crowd go absolutely crazy. This time Craig Westcarr made no mistake and it was a great finish."

  116. 1557:

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew: "This is a tough place to come; they've romped home here against top opposition. But we've got a good side today and there's been a good feeling about the training ground all week. We hope to use the ball better than we've done in recent weeks. The wide players will be key today - theirs against out full-backs and ours against there. That match-up will decide the game. The beauty of our particular team is that we can adjust quite quickly - switching between 4-4-2, 4-3-3 as quickly as we like - so we'll see how the game unfolds. The first 15 minutes are important here because it's a noisy place and we want to quieten them down."

  117. 1555:
    FULL-TIMEJPT final: Chesterfield 2-0 Swindon

Glory for Chesterfield. Their fans erupt as the final whistle goes. John Sheridan punches the air. The Swindon players look spent as Paolo Di Canio forlornly makes his way on to the pitch.

  118. 1553:
GOALJPT final: Chesterfield 2-0 Swindon - Craig Westcarr (90+4 mins)

That settles it. Chesterfield will be winning the JPT final. With Swindon on the offensive, Chesterfield hit them on the break and Craig Westcarr is put through one-on-one. He makes no mistake with a calm and composed finish past Swindon keeper Wes Foderingham.

  119. 1552:

Richie is back up and the game continues. Two minutes to go.

  120. 1552:

Paolo Di Canio is not happy as Nathan Smith goes in hard on Matt Richie. It is a strong but fair tackle that leaves Richie hurt.

  121.

Jolyon, a Newcastle supporter, texts: "I'm happy Pardrew has stuck with Perch. Good to see a manager give a player who has worked hard a run in the team. Good man management."

  122. 1550:

We will have four minutes of injury time at Wembley and we are into it now.

  123. 1549:

What a save by Chesterfield keeper Tommy Lee! Lee Holmes whips in a cross that is met by the head of Alessandro Cibocchi and seems to be heading for the goal until Lee tips it over.

  124. 1547:

BBC Sport reporter Caroline Chapman at Wembley: "Blue and white scarves are flying high in the Chesterfield end. Swindon fans continue to look dejected."

  125.

Steve Dunkerley on Twitter: "I will love it, love it, if Shezterfield can hold on and ruin the media's Di Canio love-in."

  126. 1546:

Can John Bostock start something from deep? No. His long ball forward is too far ahead of the Swindon attack and straight through to Tommy Lee. We're into the last five minutes.

  127. 1545:

In the last 10 minutes Swindon have had 80% oF possession at Wembley. They are not doing anything productive with it, though. Chesterfield holding out superbly.

  128. 1542:

The attendance for this final is 49,602. They are all watching a game that is heading in Chesterfield's direction unless Swindon can muster something in this last eight minutes.

  129. 1540:

Former Torquay player Chris Hargreaves is at Wembley for BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Swindon are simply throwing on more attacking bodies. They haven't really created much in this second half. Swindon's possession has been excellent, but the players that have done it for them all season haven't quite had the right touch at the right time today."

  130. 1539:

Swindon have another chance to deliver something to threaten the Chesterfield goal but substitute Alessandro Cibocchi curls his free-kick from 25 yards into the top of the Spireites wall before the ball is cleared.

  131.

BBC Sport commentator Nigel Adderley on Twitter: "Adrian Chiles and WBA legend Bob Taylor running the Sport Relief mile around the Hawthorns pitch dressed as Baggies mascots."

  132.

Will S on Twitter: "What a miss from Westcarr. I think Swindon will go on to win this."

  133.

Antlez on Twitter: "Newcastle are due a win against West Brom although I regret to say I'm feeling fairly pessimistic. Is that wrong of me?"

  134. 1536:

Swindon look to make Chesterfield pay for that miss as Lee Holmes shoots low from 20 yards out, but it is tame and easily saved by Tommy Lee.

  135. 1534:

Chesterfield could have just won the game. A slip in defence allows Craig Westcarr to run clear on goal. The striker opts to shoot instead of taking it round keeper Wes Foderingham but drags his shot wide of goal. Manager John Sheridan holds his head in his hands. He knows how big a moment that could be.

  136. 1532:

Swindon have a great chance to deliver something threatening, but from a good position on the right Ronan Murray overhits his cross by some distance. That is the trigger for a Swindon change as on-loan Tottenham midfielder John Bostock enters the action.

  137. 1530:
West Brom v Newcastle (1600 BST)

West Brom make four changes to the side that started at Wigan last time out as Nicky Shorey, Paul Sharner, Chris Brunt and Shane Long are replaced by Jonas Olsson, Keith Andrews, Marc-Antoine Fortune and Peter Odemwingie. Newcastle are unchanged from their victory over Norwich, so Demba Ba is partnered by Papiss Cisse up front.

  138. 1530:

  139.

Ally McCoist on BBC Radio 5 live after Rangers' 3-2 win over Celtic: "I am so, so pleased for the players and the supporters. We have so many problems off the park but we wanted to win so much and it was a game we thoroughly deserved to win. Apart from the crazy five minutes at the end, which I can't get my head around, we were fabulous."

  140.

Shaun Babbage on Twitter: "I must be one of the few neutrals rooting for Chesterfield. It would be great if they hold on. Could be a League One survival boost!"

  141. 1528:

Paolo Di Canio is doing some good poised crouching in his technical area. He looks very concerned. As well he might as his side are making little impact in the Chesterfield area. Just over 20 minutes to go, 1-0 to the Spireites.

  142.

Wayne Lamport on Twitter: "Could be joint 5th and 8 points clear of Liverpool in a few hours. Crucial game for NUFC!"

  143. 1525:

Former Torquay player Chris Hargreaves is at Wembley for BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Swindon can't sit back. They must be proactive and try to snatch a goal. Chesterfield haven't really been put under any real pressure."

  144. 1525:

Alex Mendy set up the first goal for Chesterfield and he has a half-chance to put the game further out of Swindon's reach, but his over-head kick from the edge of the area goes over the bar.

  145. 1524:

Long range shot from Matt Richie for Swindon. It's way out and optimistic at best and it flies way over the bar.

  146. 1522:
BREAKING TEAM NEWSWest Brom v Newcastle (1600 BST)

Centre-back Jonas Olsson returns from suspension and is one of three alterations to the West Brom starting line-up. Newcastle are unchanged.

  147.

Tim in Marlow texts: "I know that music downloading has taken its toll on the fortunes of rock musicians, but I had no idea that Tommy Lee of Motley Crue had followed U2 bassist Adam Clayton's example (at Leeds Utd) by taking up the beautiful game between the sticks for Chesterfield! What next? Shakin' Stevens getting a run-out for his hometown club, Cardiff City?"

  148. 1520:

Chesterfield could have strengthened their grip on the trophy just then, but Craig Westcarr's drags his shot from the edge of the area wide of goal.

  149. 1519:

Just over half an hour to go at Wembley. Chesterfield in control but while it remains just 1-0 Swindon know they are still well in this game. They have ammunition on the bench as well. Midfielder John Bostock, who joined on loan from Spurs on Thursday, is one option.

  150. 1517:

Swindon on the attack. Matt Richie crosses from the right but Tommy Lee claims superbly amongst a group of Robins forwards.

  151. 1516:
    YELLOW CARDSwindon - Alan Connell

Chesterfield looking composed at the moment. Swindon need to dig out something to get back into this game but they are hitting a wall. Alan Connell's reaction to a decision not going his way gets him a booking. Swindon frustration clear to see.

  152. 1513:

Stuart in Falkirk texts: "When I usually watch football and see all these managers getting sacked I'm usually furious that the players get no blame. With Celtic it is the first time I'd like to see the manager getting sacked. The squad is brilliant, he is not."

  153.

Matt Blazey on Twitter: "Hoping for a Double Demba Destruction Derby today"

  154. 1511:

Swindon looking to hit back. A short corner gives Lee Holmes space to cut in from the right, but his cross to the near post is blocked behind. The resulting second corner comes to nothing.

  155. 1510:

BBC Sport reporter Caroline Chapman at Wembley: "Chesterfield fans now in fine voice. Swindon fans stunned."

  156.

Jacob Reuben on Twitter: "Classy by Ally McCoist to shake hands with all the Celtic players. Scottish football needs more moments like that."

  157.

Sean Leavey "The three red cards don't tell the whole story. The game was pretty clean apart from two last-man reds and one two-footer."

  158.

BBC Radio 5 live presenter Ian Payne at Ibrox: "That's the first time I've ever been to a football match and not been able to hear the person next to me. That's why this game must, must continue."

  159. 1509:

Former Torquay player Chris Hargreaves is at Wembley for BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Now we'll see whether Swindon really do have the mettle…"

  160. 1506:
GOALChesterfield 1-0 Swindon - Oliver Risser (og) (47 mins)

The first minute of the second half and Chesterfield strike. Alex Mendy seizes possession in the box but is pushed wide before driving a low ball in from the byline. It is a wicked cross and leaves Swindon defender Oliver Risser with no choice but to stick out a boot and divert it into his own net. That could be just the spark that ignites this final.

  161.

Jack Anniky on Twitter: "I really hope Newcastle win today, going in with 8 games to go level on points with 5th would be massive."

  162.
BBC Radio 5 live Pat Nevin at Ibrox

"I am confused. The Celtic fans are enjoying the moment here. Rangers have won but more Celtic fans are celebrating than Rangers. It's weird. I've never known anything like this."

  163. 1459:
BBC MOTD's Steve Wilson at the Hawthorns:West Brom v Newcastle (1600 BST)

"Every time I watch the West Brom I like what I see; even when I've seen them lose they have played some good stuff and on occasion they have been really excellent. Like Baggies boss Roy Hodgson, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has more than proved his worth. Can he take them into Europe? They certainly deserve a crack at it after a terrific campaign."

  164.

Richard Hird on Twitter: "Looks like it's been busy day for the Mr.Murray in Scotland. 3 Reds, 1 yellow, a penalty. The poor man must be shattered."

  165. 1457:
    FULL-TIMERangers 3-2 Celtic
  166. 1455:
GOALRangers 3-2 Celtic - Thomas Rogne (90+2 mins)

Maybe Celtic can get something out of this game. A free-kick is delivered into the box where Thomas Rogne rises to head in over the diving Allan McGregor. The noise is unbelievable at Ibrox.

  167. 1454:

Former Torquay player Chris Hargreaves is at Wembley for BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Chesterfield should be in front, there's no doubt about it. I'm not sure if they provide teacups at Wembley, but if they do Di canio will be smashing a few at half-time. He looked furious as he stormed off down the tunnel. Chesterfield have defended excellently too."

  168. 1453:
GOALRangers 3-1 Celtic - Scott Brown (89 mins)

Scott Brown makes no mistake from the penalty spot to reduce Rangers' lead. There is four minutes of injury time to come. Surely not enough for Celtic to come back and get anything out of this game?

  169. 1450:
    RED CARDRangers - Carlos Bocanegra

Yet another red card. Carlos Bocanegra's tripping of Samaras is deemed to have denied the striker a goalscoring chance by referee Calum Murray. He's probably right. Bocanegra becomes the third man to receive his marching orders.

  170. 1450:
    PENALTYCeltic

Giorgios Samaras charges into the box and is felled by a late challenge from Carlos Bocanegra.

  171. 1450:
    HALF-TIMEJPT final: Chesterfield 0-0 Swindon
  172.

Joe Bray on Twitter: "Why does everyone want Di Canio to win the JPT? He's making it his final, but Chesterfield and Sheridan deserve it just as much"

  173. 1448:

David, a Chesterfield fan, texts: "Di Canio and Swindon have dominated the pre-match talk, but Chesterfield can do something special if they keep this level of performance up."

  174. 1448:

We are into the last minute of the first half at Wembley. It has not been a belter of a game so far, but it is neatly poised. Swindon come forward late on looking to score the most timely of goals but Chesterfield keeper Tommy Lee gets down well to save a low shot from Matt Richie.

  175. 1446:

BBC Sport reporter Caroline Chapman at Wembley: "Following Alan Connell's mistimed volley, Di Canio runs the length of the technical area and considers kicking over a microphone in disgust."

  176.

Nik R Porteous on Twitter: "Still life in Rangers yet. Well chuffed for Ally McCoist and Co."

  177.

Infostrada Sports have tweeted: "Rangers have won the last 12 Old Firm games in the league in which they scored the opening goal, since a 3-3 in Oct 2002."

  178. 1444:

Swindon with a chance at Wembley. A header in the box falls invitingly for Alan Connell in the box but his acrobatic overhead kick is poorly struck and goes tamely wide. It remains 0-0.

  179. 1439:
GOALRangers 3-0 Celtic - Lee Wallace (77 mins)

That is game over at Ibrox. Lee Wallace pokes possession away from a Celtic man in midfield and he and Steven Davis tear away. Davis' pass gives Wallace a clear sight of goal and he makes no mistake with a composed finish from 12 yards. Celtic won't be winning the SPL today.

  180.
BBC Radio 5 live Pat Nevin at Ibrox

"The Celtic fans have come to party regardless of the score. They would have been louder had they been winning but they are trying not to let Rangers fans enjoy it as much as they'd like by reminding them that they are going to win the league."

  181. 1438:
SUBSTITUTIONChesterfield - Craig Westcarr on for Jack Lester

Big blow for Chesterfield. Jack Lester's afternoon is over at Wembley. The experienced forward limps off with what appears to be a muscle problem in his leg. He is replaced by Craig Westcarr.

  182.

Jazz Wheway on Twitter: "Poor old Chesterfield. It would seem every neutral is supporting Swindon in the JPT final - the 'Di Canio effect' maybe?"

  183. 1435:
GOALRangers 2-0 Celtic - Andrew Little (72 mins)

Rangers extend their lead and with a two-man advantage you've got to think that is game over. Lee McCulloch has a header saved, Lee Wallace's follow-up is blocked but substitute Andrew Little, with pretty much his first touch, finds the net with the rebound.

  184. 1434:

Former Torquay player Chris Hargreaves is at Wembley for BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "If I was Chesterfield boss John Sheridan I would be screaming at my players. Whenever it's a Swindon corner it's always short and Chesterfield are giving Swindon the freedom of Wembley in which to do it."

  185.

Charlie on Twitter: "Old Firm - Championship quality at best but always entertaining and fans amazing as ever. Goals 1, red cards 2!"

  186.

Ed Hewings on Twitter: "Re 1425 - Assuming you are a Celtic fan, would you be saying that if he was biased the other way?"

  187. 1432:

I was just saying Lee Holmes looks dangerous. Simon Ferry passes wide left for the winger, but his shot is palmed just past the far post by Chesterfield keeper Tommy Lee. The Robins are enjoying their best period of the game now.

  188. 1429:

Lee Holmes looks the best attacking option for Swindon so far. He is seeing plenty of the ball down the left and earns his side a corner. It comes to nothing, but Chesterfield need to be wary of the threat the on-loan Southampton man poses.

  189.
BBC Radio 5 live Pat Nevin at Ibrox

"This is almost a hopeless scenario for Celtic. Strange things are happening in this game, but Rangers are playing really well, as they were when Celtic had 11 men."

  190.

Charles Parker on Twitter: "Have never seen a more biased performance from a ref than in the #OldFirmderby"

  191. 1425:

It would be an understatement to say the Rangers fans are enjoying themselves at Ibrox. The noise is deafening.

  192. 1424:

BBC Sport reporter Caroline Chapman at Wembley: "Compared to the technical area at the County Ground, Di Canio's got twice the amount of room to move today. He's still just outside the lines, though..."

  193. 1423:

Swindon threaten at Wembley as the on-loan Lee Holmes cuts in from the right and curls a shot narrowly over the bar. It is a fairly even contest so far.

  194. 1419:
RED CARDCeltic - Victor Wanyama (57 mins)

Celtic down to nine men as Victor Wanyama lunges in on Steven Whittaker. Referee Calum Murray shows him a straigth red. It was a dangerous tackle, two footed, but there was also a little bit of anger in Whittaker's challenge. Celtic's hopes of winning the SPL today are really hanging by a thread now.

  195. 1419:

In contrast to the wrapped up Paolo Di Canio, Chesterfield boss John Sheridan is jacketless. Clearly Sheridan's time in Yorkshire has toughened him up to the weather - which to him is positively balmy.

  196. 1416:

It appears that Celtic boss Neil Lennon has been sent to the stands at Ibrox, apparently for something he said to the referee. It remains 1-0 to Rangers, eight minutes into the second half.

  197. 1414:

Chris Hargreaves, who lifted the Conference National play-off final trophy for Torquay United in May 2009, is at Wembley for BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Chesterfield have got some good players and Swindon are certainly not infallible. Every Chesterfield man playing today will be expecting to win."

  198. 1414:

Chesterfield have the ball in the net, but it will not count. The assistant's flag is up as Jack Lester puts the ball in the net after the ball hits the bar. Replays show that was a dubious call. Difficult to make when it is second phase of play, but Chesterfield will feel aggrieved.

  199. 1410:

Swindon's Matt Richie drives forward, as he has done so often to great effect this season. Unfortunately for the Robins, after his pass inside, they try a pass too many and the eventual effort from Alan Connell is wide. Then, down the other end, Chesterfield's Jordan Bowery has space to run in on goal but fluffs his shot.

  200. 1407:

Chris Hargreaves, who lifted the Conference National play-off final trophy for Torquay United in May 2009, is at Wembley for BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "This game is so important for these two clubs. Chesterfield have started so brightly, even though they are in the division below Swindon, but they have to be the underdogs."

  201. 1407:

Chesterfield hit back at the other end as a cross from the right is headed at goal by Jack Lester. Swindon keeper Wes Foderingham saves comfortably at his near post.

  202. 1405:

Swindon the first to come forward at Wembley. Lee Holmes cuts in from the right and curls over what starts as a cross but ends up being a threat to goal. It just swings past the far post though.

  203.

Jack Willows on Twitter: "Am I the only beginning to see similarities between the personalities of Di Canio, and a certain Jose Mourinho?"

  204. 1403:

Former England goalkeeper Tim Flowers is at St Andrew's for BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "A draw is a fair result. You can see why both teams are up near the top of the division. I would say that both sides have a good chance of making the play-offs this season."

  205. 1402:
    FULL-TIMEBirmingham 1-1 Cardiff
  206. 1402:
    KICK-OFFJPT final: Chesterfield v Swindon
  207. 1401:

You would think Chesterfield were favourites for this match, but with them rooted at the bottom of League One and Swindon toping League Two, that's not so solid a theory. It is a warm day in London, but Di Canio wraps his scarf up like it's the middle of winter.

  208. 1400:

The national anthem is over at Wembley and we are a minute away from kick-off. We're going to have a new name on what is, to be honest, a pretty bland looking piece of silverware. Not that either Chesterfield or Swindon will care. They'll kiss it and lift it like it was the Jules Rimet.

  209.

BBC Sport reporter Caroline Chapman on Twitter: "Every Swindon fan has been presented with a Paolo di Canio mask to wear. Tacky, but I like it"

  210. 1357:

BBC Sport reporter Caroline Chapman at Wembley: "Electric atmosphere at a rather tropical Wembley. The red and white army of Swindon supporters - complete with Paolo di Canio paper masks - are out-singing their Chesterfield counterparts so far."

  211. 1356:

There are five minutes of injury time to go at St Andrew's. Can either team find a winner to boost their play-off hopes.

  212. 1355:

The teams are out at Wembley. Paolo looks in the mood.

  213.
BBC Radio 5 live Pat Nevin

"That's probably the best 45 minutes I have seen Rangers play this season. They have all been up for it but Sone Aluko, I'm not going to get carried away, but has he been watching videos of Lionel Messi? He's been fantastic."

  214.

Adam Warburton on Twitter: "Not a Robins fan, but would really like to see a win for Di Canio and Swindon. The man is destined for greater things"

  215. 1349:

Chesterfield's Jack Lester can complete a He was part of the Grimsby squad that edged Northampton in the old Second Division play-off final in 1998.

  216. 1345:

Former England goalkeeper Tim Flowers is at St Andrew's for BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "A great finish from Mark Hudson, who had stayed up for the long throw set-play. It was a first-time, right foot volley and a great finish from a centre half. Cardiff will be delighted that they are back in it and will think they can go on and win this now."

  217. 1345:

During his playing days, Swindon boss Paolo di Canio has won Serie A and the Uefa Cup and has a runners-up medal for the Champions League. But where would a JPT win rank? "I won Serie A with Juventus, the Uefa Cup with AC Milan as a player, important trophies and I felt like I was the most beautiful boy in the world, but the emotion that you feel inside as a manager, the emotion you give to others makes me feel like a general in a battle a thousand years ago. I hope we can win on Sunday because then I will maybe do something that you have never seen in your life. I don't know what, but I do know myself. I could do anything."

  218. 1341:
GOALBirmingham 1-1 Cardiff - Mark Hudson

Centre-back Mark Hudson stays up following the break down of a Birmingham move and is rewarded when Peter Whittingham finds him in the box, allowing him to volley into the net. All level again at St Andrew's.

  219.

Rob, Newbury, via text: "If mind games are irrelevant, does Platt think Mancini and Vieira wese stupid to start them?"

  220.

Chris Dolman on Twitter: "Johnstone's Paint final should be a great game. Think it will be a close one but hopefully a Swindon win!"

  221. 1338:
    LINE-UPSJPT final: Chesterfield v Swindon (1400 BST)

Chesterfield: Lee, Hurst, Ford, Thompson, Smith, Talbot, Allott, Moussa, Mendy, Bowery, Lester. Subs: Fleming, Westcarr, Whitaker, Boden, Randall.

Swindon: Foderingham, Devera, Risser, McCormack, McEveley, Ritchie, Jonathan Smith, Ferry, Holmes, Benson, Connell. Subs: Phil Smith, Bostock, De Vita, Cibocchi, Murray.

    Referee: Tony Bates (Staffordshire)

  222. 1337:

Spanish football news now, and Lionel Messi scored the 55th goal of what has, let's be honest, a fairly drab and avaerge season for the Barcelona forward. His goal helped his team beat Mallorca 2-0 for their seventh consecutive league win. That takes Messi to 35 for the league season. However, two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo also means he has 35 for the season and has also become the fastest to score 100 La Liga goals (92 games - surpassed Real legend Ferenc Puskas, who scored 100 in 105 games.)

  223. 1333:
GOALBirmingham 1-0 Cardiff - Erik Huseklepp (68 mins)

Chris Burke beats Kevin McNaughton in a race for the ball after a Cardiff corner is cleared, and the striker is able to square it for on-loan Norwegian Erik Huseklepp to sidefoot it home past the static David Marshall.

  224. 1331:
    RED CARDCeltic - Cha Du-Ri (29 mins)

Sone Aluko plays in Lee Wallace down the left but before he raches the box he falls in a tangle with Cha Du-Ri. It is a foul, but referee Calum Murray surprises Ibrox by showing a straight red. That is the 17th red card in 21 Old Firm derbies and it gives the home side ahuge advantage with an hour still to go.

  225.

pedrored, W London, via text: "LFC: Fed up with constant references to £100m spend on players...much more accurate to look at the net spend - £35m = Andy Carrol = the problem...Kenny's biggest folly!"

  226. 1326:

Rangers pour forward again at Ibrox with Sone Aluko on the ball again. He plays a neat pass out wide to Lee Wallace but his shot is way over the bar from an angle.

  227.

BBC Sport reporter Caroline Chapman is at Wembley this afternoon for the JPT final, and has Swindon team news: "Foderingham: McCormack (capt), Devera, Risser, McEveley; Ritchie, Ferry, Smith, Holmes; Benson, Connell."

"Swindon subs: Phil Smith, Cibocchi, Bostock, De Vita, Murray."

  228.

Alex Wild on Twitter: "If David Platt thinks mind games don't have any effect on league titles, he should have a chat with Kevin Keegan re: 1996"

  229. 1323:

Former England goalkeeper Tim Flowers is at St Andrew's for BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Saves win matches, and that great guess by David Marshall could swing this in Cardiff's favour. This is a better game now!"

  230.

Kevin Boyle on Twitter: "There's been more football and entertainment in the first 15 mins at Ibrox than in the entire Chelsea and Spurs game"

  231. 1320:
MISSED PENALTYBirmingham - Marlon King (56 mins)

Marlon King's spot-kick is palmed away by David Marshall in the Cardiff goal. It remains 0-0 at St Andrew's.

    PENALTYBirmingham

Jordon Mutch is tripped by Don Cowie and the referee points to the spot.

  233.

Dale Benton on Twitter: "Crouch's goal is one in a million, but let's not forget he's scored a few crackers in his time! Loves the ol bicycle kick"

  234. 1318:

Giorgios Samaras almost does an Aluko down the other end for Celtic. He sprints deep into Rangers territory and cuts inside a couple of challenges before shooting at goal, but Alan McGregor saves superbly. Anthony Stokes is presented with a near open goal from the rebound but he strikes the ball into the ground and on to the top of the net.

  235. 1313:
GOALRangers 1-0 Celtic - Sone Aluko (11 mins)

First blood to Rangers as they look to deny rivals Celtic the title. And it is a superb solo effort. Sone Aluko dances and weaves, jinks and darts his way into the box past a number of Celtic challenges befoe slotting a low shot past keeper Fraser Forster.

Yesterday was another good day for Arsenal, who beat Aston Villa 3-0 at the Emirates to strengthen their grip on third place after London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham battled out a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge. Arsene Wenger was understandably delighted after his side extended their winning run of league games to seven. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp isn't throwing the towel in, though, as his side look to claim third. Far from it.

    KICK-OFFRangers v Celtic
  243. 1303:

The teams are on their way out at Ibrox to 'Simply the Best'. Needless to say, both fans are belting it out as if it was written for them. Thousands of Celtic flags wave in unison. There may be a back story to why Celtic can win the title at the home of their fiercest rivals today, but Bhoys fans realise how big a day this could be for them.

  244. 1300:

Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle revealed that his players received a message of support from Fabrice Muamba before their crucial win against fellow strugglers Blackburn Rovers at the Reebok. It certainly worked to inspire them as they beat Blackburn to lift themselves out of the relegation zone.

  245. 1258:

Our chief football writer Phil McNulty was at the Reebok Stadium yesterday to witness the emotional scenes and has paid testimony to a "pitch-perfect tribute".

  246.

Will Rees on Twitter: "I guess this is the problem when you appoint a legend as your manager. Heart over head. Hazy eyes.. #notinthe80skenny"

  247.

Thomas Winter on Twitter: "How can Dalglish blame tiredness and fatigue for his teams failings? Has he never worked 10 hour shifts before?"

  248. 1253:

Former England goalkeeper Tim Flowers is at St Andrew's for BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "For all Cardiff's good approach play they have not actually worked Boaz Myhill in the Birmingham goal. I just wonder whether Cardiff will rue that at the end of the game. The one positive Birmingham can take from that first half is that the score is still 0-0. They can play a lot better."

  249. 1252:

It was an extremely emotional day at the Reebok Stadium yesterday as Bolton played their first game after Fabrice Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest on the field against Tottenham in the FA Cup. Thankfully, Muamba is recovering well and the Bolton fans (and Blackburn... and indeed football fans across the world) were able to celebrate this fact yesterday.

  250. 1250:
    HALF-TIMEBirmingham 0-0 Cardiff
  251. 1247:

Still 0-0 at St Andrew's. Cardiff still the better side, although Birmingham are striving to get a foothold in the game. Birmingham boss Chris Hughton might already be looking to half-time to get stuck into his side.

  252.

Kemal Bakir on Twitter: "Really hope one day we see Paolo di Canio managing in the Premier League. What a character!"

  253. 1246:

In contrast to the Liverpool gloom, Wigan's players and staff positively bounced out of Anfield after their win*. Manager Roberto Martinez hailed the win - the Latics first at Anfield - as a "special moment". Damn right Roberto. It keeps your side well in the race for Premier League survival.

*Possibly. Although it would be a bit weird. I was aiming for something descriptive of elation. Oh, you get the idea.

  254.

Jay on Twitter: "Re: 1218 What did Mancini expect? A red carpet, a bed of roses and an alley that would take the ball into Stoke's goal?"

  255. 1242:

Dalglish has blamed tiredness among the Liverpool players and a lack of luck for their lacklustre display at Anfield. "Every single one of them is capable of passing to someone in the same colour shirt," Dalglish told BBC Sport. "But I think the toll of three games in six days took the edge off them a little bit. It doesn't matter how good you are, you still need to have a bit of bounce of the ball with some decisions." Regardless of the reasons, judging by the response on Twitter last night, the pressure is growing on King Kenny.

  256.

Matt in Birmingham responds to Douglas Cameron's tweet at 1219: "If you're referring to Zigic he cost us £6m a couple of seasons ago. There's no way he's worth that now. Just ask Fernando Torres' agent how values change..."

  257. 1237:

There was notable concern among City fans after yesterday, but there was outright anger coming from the Liverpool fans following their 2-1 home defeat to Wigan. The defeat means the Reds have now won just 5 of their 15 home matches this season, which is their fewest in the top-flight at this stage since 1953/1954. Kenny Dalglish has picked up just 8 points in his last 10 Premier League matches, which is five less than the amount Roy Hodgson picked up in his last 10 top-flight matches in charge of the club before he was sacked.

  258. 1233:

Ah, but, you see, dropping points at Stoke doesn't show that the pesky title run-in "mind games" of Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United are working, says Man City assistant manager David Platt. "It is not about winning leagues because of mind games, it is about players going on to a pitch to play football and gain points," said Platt, before staring into the camera and saying, "Sir Alex, look into my eyes, look into my eyes, the eyes, the eyes, not around the eyes, don't look around the eyes, look into my eyes."*

    *Not really.

  259. 1227:

Former England goalkeeper Tim Flowers is at St Andrew's for BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Cardiff have been the better side, and they have imposed their formation on Birmingham. They look very comfortable for the away team."

  260. 1227:
    BREAKING TEAM NEWS

BBC Sport's Caroline Chapman at Wembley: "Early team news from Wembley and it's bad news for Swindon. Paolo di Canio's "warrior", captain Paul Caddis, didn't travel with his team-mates last night and will not play a part today. He's been sidelined for two weeks with an ankle injury and although he predicted he'd be fit in time to lead out his players, the game has come too soon for him. A big blow for Town."

  261. 1226:

Of course, we can't talk about the Stoke v Man City game without mentioning THAT goal from Peter Crouch. In case you missed it, it was a 25 yard+ angled volley into the far corner of the net. The big striker admitted afterwards it was "probably my best" goal. I concur.

  262. 1223:

Still little to speak of at St Andrew's. Cardiff are shading the opening exchanges but Joe Mason and Ben Turner fail to control their efforts on goal from the edge of the Birmingham box.

  263. 1222:

The live text for the Old Firm derby at Ibrox is now under way, with my esteemed colleague Keir Murray in the commentator's seat. It is guaranteed to be a fiery affair, so keep yourself across it.

  264.

Cardiff supporter Josh Parsons on Twitter: "Big chance today - this game could change our season for better or worse."

  265.

Douglas Cameron on Twitter: "Birmingham have a £9m striker on the bench in the Championship and they still might not go up? Insane."

  266. 1219:

One-time Premier League winning goalkeeper Tim Flowers is at St Andrew's for BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Cardiff looks as though they've settled into this game nicely. They're the team on top at the moment and they're playing some good football."

  267. 1218:

Manchester City did their title challenge little favours with a 1-1 draw at Stoke, thus handing the Premier League initiative to rivals Manchester United. City boss Roberto Mancini was not happy with the physical treatment his side received from the Potters and apparently refused to shake the hand of Stoke boss Tony Pulis at full-time. Has Mancini never seen Stoke play before?

  268. 1216:

I'll keep you updated with the major incidents and chat from St Andrew's but for now let's have a little look back over some of yesterday's big talking points from the Premier League...

  269. 1212:

The clock change appears to have caught the sides out at St Andrew's as it has been a relatively tame start. No chances to speak of yet.

  270.

Ned Thomas on Twitter: "Winner takes all at St Andrew's today"

    LINE-UPSBirmingham v Cardiff (1200 BST)

Birmingham: Myhill, Ibanez, Caldwell, Davies, Ramage, Burke, N'Daw, Mutch, Elliott, King, Huseklepp. Subs: Doyle, Townsend, Gomis, Zigic, Redmond.

Cardiff: Marshall, McNaughton, Hudson, Turner, Taylor, Whittingham, McPhail, Gunnarsson, Cowie, Mason, Lawrence. Subs: Heaton, Miller, Earnshaw, Gestede, Blake.

    Referee: Andy D'Urso (Essex)

  273. 1203:

Let's get straight in with some team news for that first fixture, which is due to kick off shortly after a minute's applause for Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba, who remains in hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch against Tottenham in the FA Cup...

  274. 1202:

Here then is today's Bully's prize board of football fixtures:

In 1, there's a Championship play-off place up for grabs as Birmingham take on Cardiff.

In 2, off-the-field matters are put to the side as Rangers look to prevent Old Firm rivals Celtic winning the SPL title at Ibrox.

In 3, expect plenty of Italian passion/madness as Paolo Di Canio's Swindon take on Chesterfield in the JPT final at Wembley.

In 4, will the Baggies be boing boinging or the Toon Army march on as West Brom host Newcastle in the Premier League.

  275. 1200:

In contrast to Saturday's eight-game Premier League extravaganza, today is comparatively sparse. But what this Sunday lacks in quantity it will hopefully make up for with quality.

There might only be four matches, but when the first of these is a key Championship play-off clash, the second's the Old Firm derby, third is the JPT final and the last is an intriguing Premier League encounter at the Hawthorns what is there to worry about?

    Plus, the sun's shining.
