Upclose footage of a FA/18D Hornet, a NAVY jet from VFA 106 fighter squadron crashed today at around noon in VA, Beach
The pilot and Co pilot/ Weapons officer, ejected and were unharmed
The jet continued and flew into an apartment complex

It was more than likely a mechanical failure so dont go blaming anyone just yet

I was a mechanic on these jets until i got out in 2009. For the majority everyone from when i was there were straight forward and stuck to the tech pubs. Lets just hope that no short cuts were taken during maintenance. I tried to get a hold to friends that still work there. It is a very scary moment for everyone involved. I pray that there was no one killed in the apt buildings.

Perhaps they didn't have the chance in this particular situation but the pilot is supposed to guide the aircraft away from populated areas prior to ejecting. I just hope that by some miracle nobody on the ground was injured or killed. I'm glad the pilots made it and I know that if someone was injured or killed on the ground, they won't let themselves live it down. My prayers go out to those affected by this crash.
