Syrians in Jordan marked the first anniversary of the start of the uprising [Reuters]

People continue to take to the streets across Syria, where the uprising has escalated into what some are calling a buregoning civil war. The United Nations says more than 7,500 people have been killed since protests began in March last year. The government blames "armed gangs" for the unrest and says more than 2,000 members of the security forces have been killed.
