Wikipedia has 21 million articles written by volunteers
Wikipedia fan Justin Knapp must have worked his fingers to the bone, to set his record for editing the online encyclopedia no less than a million times since his debut in 2005.
Knapp is quoted as saying that “being suddenly and involuntarily unemployed will do that to you.”
The prolific 30-year-old American, who holds degrees in philosophy and political science, certainly got to work on Wikipedia, averaging an impressive 385 edits a day.
Over the last seven years, Knapp has checked articles on what he knows best – politics, philosophy and pop culture.
His nearest rival in the race is said to be a Brit, Neil Edwards, who has more than 600,000 edits.
Wikipedia is currently subbed by some 90,000 volunteer editors from across the world. The crew might soon have to spend even more time burning the midnight oil though, as up to six in ten contributions are now thought to contain factual errors and inaccuracies.
Set up in 2001, the multilingual online resource has some 21 million articles written by volunteers.
