Went into this for the first time today 20.7.09 and found it to be very clear and informative. Well done to whoever set it up.
Who should we email to update the details for our church, as we are looking to setup a website and email details.
Jim Merrilees, Synod Clerk
Ian
If you can email details to Patsi in the Synod Office, that will be fine. You can get her email address from the Synod Year Book, of which your church will have a copy.
To one and all who helped to celebrate at the Thanksgiving Service in Portobello on July the 7th. It went well and it was an extremely happy occasion. Progress on our Portobello Project is coming along but somewhat slow.
Sorry for the delay in adding this comment but even Secretaries get a holiday. I went to Dunoon and Dunbar and the sun shone in both places.
The group of young adults who were in Cuba last week with myself and Stewart and Avril Cutler were Erik Rowbotham, Mattehew Pattie, Robert Taylor, Eilidh Forsyth, Shona Wallace, Katie Hannah, Alison Cooper and Jen Wilson. If any of these young people are in your link please contact them and ask them about their expericnes. I can assure you that each one of them were not only excellent advocates for the United Reformed Church but also for Synod. We had a great time and everyone had something to offer and we all realised that one doesn’t need a lot of material things to be happy. The Cuban’s are always happy and friendly. Hopefully the relationship between the two groups will continue and strengthen. For the Sunday service we slit up into three groups so that we could experience three different services. Each group introduced themselves and took greeting from our Synod. One group experienced a church with standing room only and at least 80 children, another church service was led by a rock band, the pastor being the lead guitarist and the group had two songs dedicated to them. The group who stayed in Luyano had the pleasure of hearing Mattew sing My love is like a red red rose and Highland Cathedral. All the ladies were patting him on the cheek and saying Magnifico I think they liked him. A good experience that they all put high on their list. There will be more opportunities to hear about the rest of the trip.
It’s great to see that this page has been used by the link! You will know that I am recently back from Cuba with the church and have just finished my 6 month stint on Iona. Both were incredible experiences and I really want to thank all involved in organising Cuba for the oppertunity to go!
I am now working with Christian Aid as a Volunteer Youth Advocate. My role is to promte the work of Christian Aid to young people throughout Scotland and really want to be able to work closely with young people in the URC. Please get in touch with me if you would be interested in me coming to run sessions, workshops, take park in services or support any youth led fundraising for Christian Aid. Also, please pass on my details to anyone who you think might be interested, both within and out with the URC. Email:

Thanks very much, Eilidh
Jim Merrilees:
Please take Eilidh up on her invitations. She would be good for you, your church and/or your young people to meet and work with – and you’ll enjoy the experience.

So come on, you’re bound to have four folk in your church who are convinced they know all the answers – encourage them to come to The Park Church on the 30th October. You never know, they just might win!
