WORCESTER— Phong Le is so passionate about soccer, which he unfailingly refers to as “the beautiful game,” that he went out and got his own team. Le is the founder and president of the newly formed Worcester Hydra, which will make its United Soccer Leagues debut Saturday night at Commerce Bank Field at Foley Stadium.

WORCESTER —  Despite growing up 50 miles away in Burlington, Jay Silvia never could have predicted the impact that Worcester would have on his life. Silvia, who spent the past four years as a dependable two-way forward at Holy Cross, made his professional debut last night, wearing No. 24 for the Worcester Sharks in their 3-1 loss to St. John's at the DCU Center.

WORCESTER —  The Sharks won’t be in postseason play this season, but their regular-season résumé got a boost yesterday when third-year defenseman Nick Petrecki was named the winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award as the American Hockey League Man of the Year.

WORCESTER —  Three days after it happened, there were still repercussions from the Shootout Heard ’Round the World. It happened Saturday night in Portland, with Worcester losing the shootout to the Pirates, 5-4. While Portland was celebrating its victory in front of its net, the Sharks joined them to even a few scores, and some altercations broke out.

PORTLAND, Maine —  The Sharks aren't going down without a fight. As the Portland Pirates celebrated their 5-4 shootout win last night at the Cumberland County Civic Center, a few Worcester players got into the middle of it, causing a brawl that involved all 40 skaters.
