Established in 1972, Index on Censorship is a quarterly magazine published in the UK.

In September 2011 Index launched The Art Issue copy that has been shortlisted for Amnesty International UK Media Award.

Three articles in the issue have been selected: Yasmine El Rashidi's story tackling the role of graffiti in the Arab Spring; Simon Kirby's report on the trials of Ai Weiwei and what those actions tell us about today's China; as well as an article about Russia's most provocative performance artists by Nick Sturdee.

According to the Index on Censorship, Yasmine El Rashidi is a writer based in Cairo. She is a frequent contributor to the New York Review of Books and the author of the Battle for Egypt: Dispatches from the Revolution (New York Review of Books).
