Michael the Encourager

Tuesday May 1, 2012

policeThe new article "How Do I Recognize Archangel Michael?" describes some of signs of this famous archangel's presence, including the help that Michael often delivers during a crisis and the ways Michael reassures people that God cares for them.

In short, Michael encourages people. He does so in the true sense of the word: by giving them courage.

It sometimes takes tremendous courage to do what's right in this fallen world, where people make bad decisions every day. Whenever I face pressure not to stand up for my convictions, I'm grateful that I can always pray for an extra dose of courage to choose what's right anyway -- and I'm grateful that God may send archangel Michael to deliver that courage to me when I need it!

Archangel Michael is the patron saint of people who need extra courage for their work in dangerous conditions: people like police officers, whose bravery helps them bring justice to unjust situations.

Thanks to Michael's service, it's possible for all of us to find the courage we need to to fight fear with faith.

Miracle Escape

Monday April 30, 2012

human rightsA friend of Chen Guangcheng, the blilnd human rights lawyer who recently escaped house arrest by the Chinese government, has called Guangcheng's escape miraculous.

Zhou Fengsuo, who himself had been imprisoned by the Chinese government after participating in the famous Tiananmen Square demonstrations, said of Guangcheng's escape in a BBC news interview: "It's definitely a miracle. It's nothing short of a wonder. ... This is truly a triumph for the freedom of Chinese people."

Guangcheng, who may have found sanctuary at the U.S. embassy in China, has drawn attention worldwide to the need for greater human rights in China. I believe that an even greater miracle will eventually happen if people continue to stand up for human rights there: a truly free society can ultimately emerge.

Loneliness as a Gift

Friday April 27, 2012

man prayingMany people from all walks of life report feeling lonely, and pundits report that loneliness seems to be increasing worldwide as people become connected more through technology than through personal relationships. People often view loneliness as a burden, but the new article "How Can Loneliness Lead Me Closer to God and the Angels?" describes how it can actually become a gift in your life.

Lonely feelings are signals that you need to pay attention to your relationships. When you respond to that awareness by pursuing the ultimate relationship -- a relationship with God -- you can discover God's loving presence with you (sometimes through his messengers, the angels) in new ways.

As an introvert, I love spending time alone. But the real reason why I enjoy time alone isn't my personality; it's because I can nurture my relationship with God best when I'm experiencing the quiet grace of solitude.

God and your guardian angels are with you even when other people aren't. If you're feeling lonely today, let your loneliness motivate you to reach out to them in prayer!
