Hollie Cavanagh Makes "American Idol" Top 5

Friday April 27, 2012

Even in Hollywood, Hollie Cavanagh is feeling the pull from North Texas. The teen from McKinney Boyd HS survived another week on the hit show American Idol.

Hollie struggled a bit Wednesday night with her Queen-inspired song "Save Me" -- but knocked it out of the park with her version of "The Climb," made famous by Miley Cyrus. This week the finalists had to perform both a Queen song and a song of their own choosing.

Judge Randy Jackson said, "Yo. Now that's the Hollie Cavanagh we love. That's the one. Hollie is back. That was beautiful -- perfect song for you."

Jennifer Lopez also agreed. "It was perfect; it was perfect for you....the emotion, the notes, the whole thing."

Thursday's Bottom 3 consisted of Cavanagh, Elise Testone and Skylar Laine. The country-girl-next-door Laine was sent to safety and it was down to Cavanagh (who we knew was safe) and Testone. It ended up being the end of the road for Elise, who had a great run with her rock ballads.

Holliepops had a fantastic week last week when she really scored with the fans with Adele's "Running in the Deep." Apparently some fans were surprised that Colton Dixon left the show. I was not at all surprised.

What's Up?
Somehow Phillip Phillips has skated away safely during all this commotion. He performed a Dave Matthews Band song (horribly) and somehow he's been avoiding the Bottom 3. How is this possible? His time is coming.

Stay Tuned
Spoiler alert. I'll have some more special insight about Hollie Cavanagh next week. Be sure to catch the performance show next week on Wednesday on  FOX.

Hollie Cavanagh Makes Top 6 on "American Idol"

Thursday April 19, 2012

Despite another trip to the Bottom 3, Hollie Cavanagh was declared safe -- making the Top 6 finalists on American Idol.  Cavanagh showed a lot more confidence and knocked it out of the park with her version of "Running in the Deep" by Adele on Wednesday night. The teenage singing sensation is from McKinney Boyd.

The bottom 3 included Elise Testone, Colton Dixon and Hollie.

It was the end of the road for Dixon, who struggled with "Bad Romance," by Lady Gaga (though some of the judges actually liked it). Dixon originally wasn't going to audtion this season, he changed his mind while watching his sister's audtion. Colton also auditioned for the previous season of Idol. Dixon ended the show on his knees, giving thanks with a praise song that he'd performed during a previous week's show.

More on Hollie's performance this week.

She's in it to win it DFW. Keep supporting our home town girl!

Ted Nugent Meets With Secret Service in Oklahoma

Thursday April 19, 2012

Ted Nugent lives for controversy. After making some unpopular remarks about the Obama Administration, the Secret Service got involved, meeting with the guitar hero in Oklahoma.

Today, April 19, 2012, Ted Nugent announced that he did meet with members from the Secret Service in Oklahoma. He clarified that he did not make any threats of violence. According to his website, he gives the following explanation:

"I met with two fine, professional Secret Service agents in OK today. Good, solid, professional meeting concluding that I have never made any threats of violence towards anyone. The meeting could not have gone better. I thanked them for their service, we shook hands and went about our business. God bless the good federal agents wherever they may be."

In only a way that Uncle Ted can communicate, he alluded that smart people know better than to think he'd make threats. "By no stretch of the imagination did I threaten anyone's life, or hint at violence or mayhem. Metaphors needn't be explained to educated people."
