Following weeks of clashes along the border, South Sudan government officials have now accused their northern neighbours of Sudan of "provocation" after several bombs were reportedly dropped by Sudanese planes on its border town of Bentiu, targeting a bridge between the town and the nearby town of Rubkona.

For the first time, in France, a sitting President has lost in the first round of a presidential election as Socialist presidential challenger François Hollande topped the first round of voting on Sunday ahead of incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy. Therefore after edging out the far right's Marine Le Pen they will now face off in the second round on May 6.
