Kingdom rejects Russian charges on Syria

March 7, 2012

An official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stated that the Ministry has viewed the statement issued by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation on the 4th of March. The statement contains serious accusations towards the Kingdom for supporting terrorism in Syria.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its strong refusal and condemnation to such irresponsible statements that are mistaking the reality of the Kingdom's keenness to deal with the Syrian crisis according to the rules of international legitimacy, and through the Security Council which is concerned with preserving the international peace and security. These efforts had been sadly aborted and disabled with the veto, that gave the Syrian regime a license to persist in crimes against unarmed people, which is incompatible with human morals and all international laws and decorum.

It is necessary to mention in this regard that the Russian accusations are based on false assumptions repeated by the Syrian regime media which is negated by the international community claiming that Al-Qaeda along with other armed terrorist groups form the basis of the Syrian opposition. This approach reflects a clear support to the regime to commit what rises to the level of crimes against humanity, which might subject the supporter of these acts to moral, legal and criminal law responsibility. History alone will respond to such accusations of arming terrorists and will undoubtedly testify to who are the terrorists and who is behind them.
