Jurupa Valley Becomes California’s 482nd City

According to the recent 2010 Census report, Riverside County was the fastest growing county in California in the last decade. To support this growth, the county will add a new city to its ranks, Jurupa Valley. Jurupa Valley’s date of incorporation will be July 1, 2011.

Jurupa Valley became Riverside County’s 28th city earlier this week, after a close race, with 54 percent of the votes reported in favor of cityhood. With 88,000 residents and an area of 43.5 square miles, Jurupa Valley includes Belltown, Glen Avon, Indian Hills, Jurupa Hills, Mira Loma, Pedley, Rubidoux and Sunnyslope.

The ballot also included sixteen candidates vying for five city council seats. Laura Roughton, Verne Lauritzen, Micheal Goodland, Frank Johnston and Brad Hancock were confirmed yesterday as the city’s first council.
