5/4/2012 Olli Jokinen, C Jokinen has undergone surgery on a torn abdominal muscle. Calgary said in a statement that Jokinen played through the injury late in the season after first experiencing discomfort March 22 in a game against Minnesota.

Analysis: The 33-year-old Jokinen is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent July 1. The Finn played all 82 games of the regular season and had 23 goals and 38 assists.
5/3/2012 Raffi Torres, LW Torres is appealing the length of his 25-game suspension. Torres was penalized last month for a hit to the head on Chicago forward Marian Hossa.

Analysis: Torres and the NHL Players' Association will meet with Commissioner Gary Bettman about the length of the suspension, but not the ban itself. The NHLPA says there's no date set for the meeting.
5/3/2012 Kris Versteeg, LW Versteeg is recovering from surgery to repair a cyst problem that impaired mobility in his left hip. Versteeg had three goals and two assists in seven playoff games for the Panthers, who lost in an Eastern Conference first-round series to the New Jersey Devils.

Analysis: Versteeg will be a restricted free agent this offseason, and the Panthers want him to return. He missed 11 games during the regular season and still established career-bests in goals (23) and points (54), while tying his season-best in assists (31) for the Southeast Division champions.
5/3/2012 Jack Johnson, D Johnson has been selected captain for Team USA at the 2012 World Championships, which begin Friday in Helsinki and Stockholm. It will be the second time that the 25-year-old will serve as team captain in his international career, also doing the honors on the 2010 World Championships team.

Analysis: The Indianapolis native, acquired by the Blue Jackets on Feb. 23 along with a conditional first-round draft pick from Los Angeles for Jeff Carter, won a silver medal with the Americans at the 2010 Olympic Games and has also participated in four World Championships, two World Juniors and two World Under-18 Championships.
5/1/2012 Andrei Kostitsyn, RW The Predators suspended Kostitsyn for Game 3 for violating team rules, and after the victory coach Barry Trotz has decided to go with the same lineup. Kostitsyn will sit for Game 4.

Analysis: The Predators did not specify for what. Kostitsyn is tied for the team lead this postseason with two goals, and he has scored in each of the losses in Phoenix. Kostitsyn did not talk with reporters after practice in Nashville.
5/1/2012 Alexander Radulov, RW The Predators suspended Radulov for Game 3, and after the victory coach Barry Trotz decided to stick with the same lineup. Radulov will sit for Game 4.

Analysis: The Predators did not say for what. Radulov was criticized for his performance in Sunday night's 5-3 loss at Phoenix, which dropped the Predators into an 0-2 deficit in this Western Conference semifinal. Radulov rejoined Nashville in March after spending the past four years in Russia. He has six points.
5/1/2012 Ilya Kovalchuk, LW Kovalchuk will miss Tuesday's Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Philadelphia Flyers with an undisclosed injury.

Analysis: The Devils said that Kovalchuk is day to day. He has three goals in eight playoff games. He led the Devils with 37 goals and 83 points this season.
4/29/2012 Alex Pietrangelo, D Pietrangelo was not at practice on Sunday, the morning after getting checked face-first into the boards by Dwight King in St. Louis' 3-1 loss to Los Angeles.

Analysis: Coach Ken Hitchcock did not rule out Pietrangelo for Monday night, but he's decided on Ian Cole as a potential replacement.
4/27/2012 Steven Stamkos, C Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers, center Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins and center Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning are the finalists for the Hart Trophy for the NHL's most valuable player in the regular season.

Analysis: Stamkos led the NHL with 60 goals. He got No. 60 in Tampa Bay's finale at Winnipeg, becoming the first player to reach the milestone since 2007-08 when Alex Ovechkin scored 65. Stamkos tied for the NHL lead with Phoenix's Radim Vrbata in game-winning goals with 12, scored an NHL-record five overtime goals and had 48 even-strength scores, the most of any player since 1992-93.
4/27/2012 Evgeni Malkin, C Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers, center Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins and center Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning are the finalists for the Hart Trophy for the NHL's most valuable player in the regular season.

Analysis: Malkin won his second Art Ross Trophy by leading the NHL with 109 points (50 goals, 59 assists). He became the first player since 1995-96 to get five or more points at least four times in one season. Malkin also finished second in the NHL with a career-high 50 goals.
4/27/2012 Henrik Lundqvist, G Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers, center Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins and center Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning are the finalists for the Hart Trophy for the NHL's most valuable player in the regular season.

Analysis: Lundqvist, also a finalist for the Vezina Trophy for top goalie, helped the Rangers to their best regular-season record since the Stanley Cup season of 1993-94. He went 39-18-5 in 62 games, setting a career high in wins. He was third in wins, tied for third in shutouts (eight), fourth in goals-against average (1.97) and fourth in save percentage (.930).
4/26/2012 Shea Weber, D Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins, Erik Karlsson of the Ottawa Senators and Shea Weber of the Nashville Predators are the finalists for the Norris Trophy for the NHL's best defenseman.

Analysis: Weber, the Nashville captain, was sixth in scoring among defensemen with 49 points (19 goals, 30 assists).
4/26/2012 Erik Karlsson, D Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins, Erik Karlsson of the Ottawa Senators and Shea Weber of the Nashville Predators are the finalists for the Norris Trophy for the NHL's best defenseman

Analysis: Karlsson led all defensemen in scoring with 78 points (19 goals, 59 assists). He finished with 25 points more than any other defenseman - the widest winning margin since Pittsburgh's Paul Coffey topped the field by 38 points in 1988-89.
4/26/2012 Zdeno Chara, D Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins, Erik Karlsson of the Ottawa Senators and Shea Weber of the Nashville Predators are the finalists for the Norris Trophy for the NHL's best defenseman.

Analysis: Chara, who won the Norris in 2009, had a career-high 52 points (12 goals, 40 assists) for Boston.
4/25/2012 Pekka Rinne, G Henrik Lundqvist of the Rangers, Jonathan Quick of the Kings and Pekka Rinne of the Predators are the finalists for the NHL's Vezina Trophy for best goaltender.

Analysis: Rinne went 43-18-8 for Nashville. He also was a Vezina finalist last season, finishing second to Boston's Tim Thomas.

Analysis: Quick set a franchise record with 10 shutouts for Los Angeles, and was second in the NHL with a 1.95 goals-against average.
4/25/2012 Henrik Lundqvist, G Henrik Lundqvist of the Rangers, Jonathan Quick of the Kings and Pekka Rinne of the Predators are the finalists for the NHL's Vezina Trophy for best goaltender.

Analysis: Lundqvist led the Rangers to the most points in the Eastern Conference, going 39-18-5 in 62 appearances with a 1.97 goals-against average. He is the first goaltender in NHL history to record 30-plus wins in each of his first seven seasons.
4/24/2012 Jose Theodore, G Theodore is expected be the Florida Panthers' starting goalie against New Jersey in Game 7 of their Eastern Conference first-round series on Thursday night. Coach Kevin Dineen made the announcement after Florida's morning skate, saying Theodore ``deserves the start if he can go.''

Analysis: Theodore missed Game 6 on Tuesday with an unspecified injury, after shutting out the Devils in Game 5. Theodore was able to go through an on-ice workout Wednesday, saying afterward that his condition was improving.
4/24/2012 Jeff Schultz, D Schultz is expected to return to Washington's lineup, replacing John Erskine alongside Dennis Wideman, who's been on the ice for eight of Boston's 12 even-strength goals in the series.

Analysis: played Games 1-3, Erskine played Games 4-6. "We need to clean up our mistakes. That's what killed us the last couple games,'' Schultz said.
