BARDO (TAP) - The draft law on the provisional organisation of the public authorities, which was forwarded on Friday to the Speaker of the National Constituent Assembly (NCA), provides for the creation of an Independent Higher Authority for the Elections (IHAE) to discharge its duty on a permanent basis, announced Mr. Said Mechichi, Deputy Chairman of the Commission on Provisional Organisation of Public Authorities.
In a statement to TAP news agency, Mr. Mechichi said the draft law, to be discussed and adopted during next Tuesday's NCA plenary session, provides for the creation of a permanent IHAE under a NCA law. This authority will be tasked with overseeing the elections according to international standards. The mission of the current IHAE will soon end.
The experience gained by the IHAE during the last elections will certainly be the starting point for the establishment of the future authority.
