A group of victims of Tunisia’s Arab Spring revolt sewed their lips shut to express their anger and frustration on Thursday to highlight their plight.
They call themselves ‘The Injured of the Tunisian Revolution’, and have been protesting for more than one year about the lack of health care. In protest, they set camp outside the parliament’s building for over a month.
However, they say the country's authorities have ignored their demands leaving them to stage this symbolic and painful demonstration.
Mohammed Snoussi said: “We’ve decided to sew our mouths because we screamed and nobody listened to us. All the commissions and administrations we’ve visited just postponed our cases.”
Hamza Missaoui expressed his frustration for those some of whom were wounded during the overthrowing of president Zine ElAbidine Ben Ali’s regime in January last year.
“I’m going to sew my mouth to support all those wounded in the revolution throughout the country and we’ll never forgive the MPs we’ve elected for their lack of interest in us,” said Missaoui.
Meanwhile, others like Malek Aloui say they have been recently injured by police by all forms of torture some beaten or even burned by cigarettes extinguished on their bodies.
